Hi. I was wondering how long does one hurt after transplant? Do you all find that your side hurts more after getting exercise? What can I expect as far as pain and energy level during 2 and 3 months post transplant?

Hi there! I’m 8 months post transplant. The first few days it hurts, but tylenol was plenty for me. I’d say that the following weeks there was no pain, sometimes a little burning sensation that my doctors said it qas my nerves healing. I was taking long walks 2 weeks after surgery and exercising 4 weeks after surgery, but no abs, with my transplant teams approbation. It has been smooth sailing for me. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different and nobody healing is the same. Good louck to you :)

I wish I was as dedicated as you with post op fitness. Many other factors had me choose the "lazy path" unfortunately.

Due to your immunosuppressant meds and prednisone your healing is slowed down. You also had major surgery and it takes 6 months to recover, at least that is what I was told. Nerves in the site of the surgery have to heal, and that is what causes pain when you go out and walk. I think the important thing is to walk daily and you will soon see that the pain gets better. The more active you are, the better you will feel and your energy level will get back to normal. Remember not to do strenuous exercise. I was told that walking is the best exerrcise.

I guess what I am trying to say - it takes time to be pain free and feel like your old self.

Take care! I am 21+ years post transplant.

thanks :)

It will be 2years since my transplant. It was about 4 months when I was pain free. Walking is the best thing, once I got back to my own hometown I could walk more.Good luck and remember every one heals differently.

I had my transplant two and a half years ago. Honestly, I barely remember any pain. I think I stopped taking pain meds two days after being home. I had discomfort, but not pain that was significant enough to remember. After about a month I could move around without discomfort. Each person’s level of pain tolerance is different. Walking is key and keeping a positive attitude is key too. Eat well and give yourself time to to heal and recover. There is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself.

Thank you for your question. I am 7 weeks out from having my Transplant. I still hurt. It has gotten better each day but after moving about during the day my I experience pain at night and at bedtime. My team says it's because the nerves and muscles have been cut. Also I had to have an in and out surgery to remove a pocket of fluid that formed 1 month post transplant which added to my pain. I am looking forward to the day that I am pain free and my energy levels are higher. Anyways thanks again for the question and all the responses.

Dear snowbound,

I'm guessing, based on my own experience, that you are, by now, feeling less Physically 'Sore' over the actual Transplant Site. There is however some Dis-Comfort if/when you do certain activities. Without giving 'too much' away, this IS quite Normal!

Have a Close Look, at you Transplant Site.... Still not entirly 'settled' is it (now you come to actually 'mention' it...erm NO). The same is true for your Insides too. Have you had the Stent removed yet, if not the do ask. Reather 'Uncomfortable', to say the least, but very Necessary for your recovery.

I'm sure that you are 'Doing Fine' Snowbound- can I just gently remind you that... You Had Major Surgery, Only A Couple Of Months Ago! On a Scale, of one to ten, you had about a six/ seven. Give yourself Time...Time to Recover, Time to Heal, Time to get back to Normal.

Sorry if I Sound Like, I'm having, a 'Go' at you...I'm NOT....I'm just putting your, actually very serious, Surgery in context. Take a Look back, at both our Posts, in a years time. In the mean time, I wish you a Speedy Recovery, my friend.
