Has anyone had a transplant without tac or cyclosporine?

I am worried about post transplant tremors as my studies/future job involve lots of very accurate drawing.

As such, I was wondering whether it is possible to have a transplant without tacrolimus or cyclosporine, using other immunosuppression.

In my case the doctors reduced both tacrolimus and prednisone doses pretty fast and the tremors are gone now. Hopefully your transplant goes well and the kidney works immediately so your team can do the same for you. Congrats and best wishes on your recovery!!

not everyone on Tacro gets tremors. I have been taking tacro for 8 years, rarely I get mild tremors. while writing/drawing, one has to rest the hand on notebook, so tremors will diminish

If you are concerned about the drugs you will be on, LisaSnow is right that you need to have a discussion with your transplant team.Not everyone suffers from tremors. We are all different. I had some slight tremors but went away after the first couple of months. Almost all meds do that at first.

Always tell your transplant team any issues or problems you have. My dose of my meds were adjusted several times that first year.

I am 21+ years post transplant and hardly remember that first year. I take Myfortic (Cellcept) and Neoral Cyclosporine).

Did u have cadevar transplant or live transplant? 21 yrs is a long time.

My transplant was from a deceased 16 year old donor. It was a great match. I am so happy that all continues to work well 21+ years later. I write my donor family at least once a year to thank them again for the fantastic gift they gave me. I thank God too, since it also would not have been possible without his blessings.Merry Christmas!

I’m a designer, a year post transplant, and on tacro and the tremors definitely decreased as my dose dropped. While I do still have them, I don’t find them messing with my work now. It is different for everyone, but I thought I’d share that as I know how important fine detailed work is for creatives! You could always see how it works for you and reconsider if you find it affects your work.

I’ve taken both the older drug cyclosporine, for kidney disease and the newer tacrolimus for the transplant over the years. Any tremors some people get generally go away after a few months, and definitely with lower doses. They are more like a feeling rather than an actual noticeable shake. The only real time immunosuppressants are not used is when the matches are extremely close, like identical twins.

Yes. Ask the nephrologist. I am on mycophenolate and prednisone. I have tremors in my right hand intermittently. It took 20 years to show up.
