Creatinine baseline

I'm sure I've asked this before, but what is the usual timeframe for a transplant patient to reach a creatinine baseline? It will be 1 year in Febuary since I had mine, and I've had levels run from 1.35 to 2.02. My last labs creatinine was at 1.9 and my TX team said was ok. I worry about it, as well as every pain, etc. I'm told not to worry so much because stress can hurt.

Everyone varies on the recovery after kidney transplant. If I have a question, I always sought after another opinion of nephrologist to make sure I was not missing anything. Information is power! Good luck and congratulation on the one year mark.

When I look back, my creatinine was all over the place for about the first 18 months or so. I even had several kidney biopsies in that time just to make sure it was not early rejection. I was fine. I would rely on what your transplant team says. They are the experts. Make sure you stay hydrated, because that can effect your creatinine numbers. I have been consistently 0.9 - 1.1 in the last 10 years. I am 20 years post transplant.

Good luck!

Hello kimosabi1961, my spouse had his kidney transplant Nov 2018 and his creatinine the first 9 months was all over the place and just the past 3 months stays 1.6 to 1.9, I would listen and trust your transplant team. I imagine it is hard to trust others 100%. The creatinine number is important , but your other blood labs show very important information that would show the team if something was 'off'. I am finding there is no 'normal' for people the first 13 mos after transplant. I wish you a great new year!

Hi, I just got a transplant last month. My doctor told me that if my creatinine is between 1 and 2 that may be just my baseline. Right now it is 1.6 and she said it will probably go down but that might be my new normal. I hope this helps.

Hi, difficult question as there are so many variants, but generally most centres aim for keeping creatinine levels close to 150 or 1.6 depending on how your centre records the results, or lower if possible. However, we’re all different & this is a general figure. Some people have higher, and some lower base lines, which is normal for them. It’s a question of finding your base, rather than comparing. The blood results should be as close to 12 hours since the last medication was taken as possible, but we can also improve our own results by following the correct dietary, and ‘plenty’ of low caffeine fluids advice as possible. Lower protein mostly vegetarian meals, with high fibre content may help some people lower their creatinine levels.
