Are there new treatments, meds or new diet that can prevent a transplanted kidney from failing?

This is a follow up to a previous post. My husband's creatnine is now 3.3, and I fear the need for a second transplant is inevitable. He had a transplant in 2008, so it's been approximately 11 years. He's been able to live a pretty normal life, and so we are grateful for the transplant. Of course, there have been ups and downs. Has anyone out there had a similar situation where your transplanted kidney wasn't doing so well...but with a new treatment, new meds, or adopting a NEW way of eating made a huge difference and creatnine levels improved? If so, please share.

reduce meat intake and go for plant and fruit based diet -- provided your potassium is not high

There’s hope! My husband got his 2nd transplant a year ago from me! He is doing better than after the 1st one! He’s on so much less meds this time around too! He takes immunosuppressants of course but he lost a lot of weight so blood pressure is low now therefore no need for his previous 2 blood pressure meds or Lipitor. Be positive and find a compatible donor. Tell them that I’d do it again if I had another kidney to spare!

I went back to a fish and veggie diet creating fell by .5 . Sneak in a burger from time to time but diet always helps. Meds have a lot of side effects. Also you might want to ask your doctors about a kidney biopsy, it may show if one of his meds are affecting the kidney adversely. Happened to me in the beginning. Wish you all the best
