Dry scalp

Hi guys, my two boys have both had transplants one liver and kidney and the other had two livers, my question is a little odd lol they both have really dry scalps, I've tried many different shampoos but nothings is working. They are both teens so obviously it's not particularly nice for them . Does anyone else suffer this, they are on three anti rejection meds along with some others , tacrolimus , mycophenalate and prednisolone any advice would be great, thanks Jo xx

Bless their hearts! I have been on that same cocktail for 6 years for a kidney transplant and only had thinning of the hair for the first few years. If you don't find a resolution, have them rub just a dab (really, a dab) of coconut oil (from jar you can get at any grocery store) on their scalp before washing their hair (and not to wash their hair too often). Best of luck.

I've had dry scalp my whole life, my transplants haven't seemed to make it worse or better. Over-washing definitely makes mine worse, so I don't use shampoo ever. I'll "co-wash" which means about once a week I'll leave conditioner in my hair while I shower and then rinse it out. Periodically I'll wet my hair, put oil (Jojoba, tee tree) in my hair for an hour or two, and then co-wash it out. My scalp seems healthiest when I sweat more and rinse my hair after exercising. If I'm exercising and sweating regularly (4+ times weekly), I don't need to do anything else - just rinse after sweating so the sweat doesn't sit on it. But basically I'd look into dry scalp things unrelated to transplant - our bodies certainly change with transplant and we all adjust in different ways. All the best to your boys and you on your journey! - Kevin
