There could be a number of reasons for why you can't sleep at night. It could be that your kidneys are crowding your lungs making it hard to breath at night. It could be acid reflux from laying down for too long. If you are drinking caffine during the day it can effect your sleep at night. Sometimes it's nothing at all. Insomia is common for late stage kidney disease. When you can try to take mini naps. Naps help a lot and you feel a liitle better so you can do the things you need to. Also, if you have a recliner try sleeping in it. If you need to sleep in a bed try laying on your left side to get air going to your lungs or talk to your doctor about taking a sleep test. C-pap helps with getting air to your lungs to help you rest. If you find that it is acid talk to your doctor before you take anything because over the counter meds are bad for your kidneys. On the nights when nothing seems to work try reading or watch a light hearted movie or TV show to help you relax.

You are not a lone in the lack of sleep. I am typing this to you on a night I can't sleep. (LOL) Be patient and kind to yourself. It will take you some time to adjust. I wish you the best.

Unfortunately, insomnia is pretty common after transplant. The steroids make it worse. Make sure you tell your transplant team. Maybe there are some suggestions they can make. There are some "over the counter" remedies we have here in the US. But make sure you tell your doctor before you take anything. I take 2 regular tylenol(acetaminophen) before I go to bed, and it helps some. I am 18 years post transplant and still have bouts of insomnia. Sorry about that.....
