My son will be getting a transplant

Hi, my 17 year old special needs son will be submitted for transplant in May. Our hope and prayers is that I can be the donor. We live in the Dallas area. He is anxious but excited. What are some things we can do to be ready?

Hello! I hope you have a great workup and are a match for transplantation!

One suggestion I have is "Guided Meditations to Promote Successful Surgery" by Belleruth Naparstek. I'm not one much for meditations, but this audio CD helped keep me calm the months leading up to the transplant surgery, and even pre-surgery the day of.

I hope others will have more suggestions for you, and I wish you the best!

Here is a link to the CD on Amazon: amazon.com/Meditation-Succe... .

If you would like to talk with someone who has donated a kidney to their child, we'd be happy to connect you to speak with someone through NKF's Peer Mentoring Program, just call 1-855-653-7337 to get started. Additionally you can find information on getting ready for a transplant here: kidney.org/atoz/content/tra... and general transplant info here: kidney.org/atoz/atozTopic_T.... Wishing you both the best!
