Has anyone had high potasium? It should be easy to adjust your diet?

Yes, high potassium is actually one of my ongoing issues. I follow an extremely low potassium diet and take sodium bicarbonate two times a day. there are potassium binder medications that can be used though. I'm hoping my new nephrologist will modify this part of my treatment plan do I can eat some veggies as a regular part of my diet.

But you've had a transplant? Right? If you're asking for yourself I'd definitely think you'll want to talk with your nephrologist about this immediately.

True🐶 In my case, I don't take blood pressure medications though. I realize that's somewhat unusual...

I can't remember...how far out from your transplant are you? I remember that the first couple of years your body is adjusting to having a new kidney.

For me, anyway, after 19+ years since my transplant, if anything my potassium and sometimes my magnesium will be on the low side. The only thing I have to watch in my diet is SALT. Within reason, I am able to eat anything that I want.

I take 2 different BP meds, both prescribed by my nephrologist.

I know the low potassium diet can be hard but do you realize that almost everything has a too much potassium? The number one culprit for me was the beans as I am veggie. The starchy potatoes, the spinach and of course the juices are high in content. Even energy/ snack bars have significant loads of K levels. Try to watch the fruits as well. Now I am S/P transplant going on eighteen months but I still watch my potassium and phosphate levels as these can be initial trigger that rejection maybe around the corner.....GOOD LUCK....

There's a free app I use that helps me calculate my daily potassium levels. It's available for both iPhones or android smart phones.

The app is called HealthWatch 360.

You can enter foods and bar codes for foods like almond milk or chicken broth. The bar codes will connect you to the USDA data base for the product. You'll then get the total nutritional information for the item including phosphorous levels and such. The app also gives nutritional information for basic foods like red raspberries.

I'm not sure whether it will connect to similar data bases for other countries like Canada.

But the other thing you can do with this app is enter recipes. It will then calculate the nutritional data per serving.

Plus if you enter your total daily food and beverage intake it will give you your total daily amounts.

I've double checked this data against the nutritional information posted for recipes on web sites like Davita. The calculations on HealthWatch 360 are very consistent with the nutritional data provided for those recipes on Davita.
