I had my first PD treatment yesterday. We started with a 1.5 solution for one hour. We did this twice in the dialysis center using the manual method. Today we did the same today only I performed all functions myself. My machine and Supplies will be arriving at my house tomorrow. So tomorrow the nurse will be going to my home and we will start training on the machine. I am going home today with a blood pressure machine, scale and cleaning solutions along with a welcome pack including a log book for notes and a comfy blanket. I did not feel any pain or discomfort during the process went home yesterday feeling great expect today to be the same. Not sure how I’m going to handle the PD machine but feeling very optimistic so far.

Thanks so much for this update! It's very encouraging:)

I especially like knowing how each day of training goes as well as how you have felt physically.

It sounds like the training is going quickly. Has the dialysis nurse visited your home already to help you figure out where you'll store the numerous boxes of supplies???

Just so very good to hear how this is going!

Sincerely,

Marj

Hi Marj

Yes, nurse came to my house last week. Basically looked around noted smoke detectors, room for storage and of course cleanliness. Today I’m waiting for supplies and nurse to arrive. A little nervous, I don’t know why. 🙂

You're doing great! While the slight bit of nervousness is to be expected, I'm sure this will go well today.

Nothing but good thoughts and best wishes for you!

The machine will make your life alot simplier. Although at first the lines, solution and the machine will seem like a big production. But, once you get the hang of it. It will be a breeze. But, follow all safety instructions your PD nurse has taught you. So, that you don't develop complications. Like Peritonitis. Good luck with PD. Take care!

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking just that, “ this is going to be a huge production”. Very encouraging.

The best advice I can give you as a new patient is to NOT get down upon yourself about the the disease and your condition.

This is just another chapter of your life. Stay positive.

I will do my best. When I start to drift into the negative, I reminded myself all I have to be grateful for. Thank you for your post.

Yes, I find I have to do the same sometimes. It's also so very helpful for me that I'm still working. I absolutely love what I do. So working on a daily basis has proven to be really good for my mental attitude too 😊

Absolutely!! My father had CKD. I never knew him when he didn't have CKD. But he had such a great attitude about it; and quite a sense of humor as well. He did exactly what his doctors told him to do which definitely both improved and prolonged his life. However, I strongly believe that his attitude and sense of humor were equally important for both his overall quality of life and length of life. From him I learned as a young child that it is possible to live a good and productive life while grappling with a serious chronic illness 😊

Such an inspiration. I’ve been really down and this is really helping me. My doctor said I would have to start in January. It was like a kick in the gut as I’ve been working for 4 years in end stage to stay off dialysis. But now the time has come and I have to make the most of it.

Sounds like your father was an amazing man. His strength is why you’re so positive today. Both my parents had kidney issues and were on dialysis. My father had polycystic kidneys, which I inherited. My mother had diabetes, causing her kidneys to fail. My father did work for a while but his situation was very bad and he died quite young. I think we handle kidney failure better today than back in the day. Although as many have mentioned, there is still a long way to go. Today went well machine arrived. Later in the day supplies were delivered. The first delivery is often a large one. Quite a few boxes and I only requested two weeks. I can’t imagine what four weeks would have been like. My nurse said we will be using the machine tomorrow. Hope you have a good night.

Good luck to you. For me It’s been almost 8 months now. I started the beginning of April. I am in a comfortable routine and it’s working very well. I was more nervous and stressed before beginning. Now everything is fine. I’m sure it will be for you as well. I am doing PD at home while sleeping. Wish you the best.

They come to your house? Not sure how that will work as my neph is an hour away and I'm really remote out here. There's a Davita 30 min away but they only do in center.
