I did hemo first then switch too pd. The surgery is ok but the healing takes bout a week. Of course your surgery site hurts (dr does give medicine to reduce the pain) after about two weeks you go see your pd nurse they check on your surgery site and change the dressing. They make sure it’s no signs of infection or drainage. They usually wait 4-6 weeks before the start the training. It’s pretty simple. You just have to follow every step exactly how they tell you! Don’t skip anything and always wear mask and wash your hands etc. get a infection in the pd catheter is horrible!! I hope and pray all goes well. Pd is great more freedom can eat and drink

More blood is always getting cleaned! But it is possible to gain weight being on pd cause solution that goes in your stomach has sugar in it I’m no longer on pd I’m back on hemo do to the infections I got even tho I did everything the nurse said I still got infections

Some do some don’t it just depends on the person I must admit I did. I was able to eat more variety of food my potassium got low because your blood is always getting cleaned. I didn’t watch my diet so I did gain weight but the pd nurses should tell you that it’s possible to gain weight hope this helps

When started on PD it’s a lot more work than I expected but you do have the freedom of hooking up while you’re sleeping The bus device I can offer is to wash your hands as often as possible before and after you hook up And use hand sanitizer or whenever going out in public and even at home! I ended up getting an infection it almost killed me that’s when I switch to he Mo for three more years until I got my transplant! Good luck and wash your hands

I lost about 40 pounds over seven years on dialysis just because of the diet restrictions I have to watch my potassium and phosphorus Pro Tien and of course sodium be very careful process foods most of all never ever give up it took me seven years to be healthy enough to make the list two months later I got the call for a transplant that was five months ago and I’m doing great it was a life-changing experience good luck wash your hands and I hope you get the call soon
