Which port? PD(abdomen) or Chest? I had both. U don't want the chest catheter to stay long, it's not made to be a permanent source of use. But the dialysis takes care and cleans that, so u just have to be careful not to pull it. And the abdomen, again make sure u don't pull it, clean around the site daily, and taped down for security. U can do this portion at night while u sleep. Unless u do the option for multiple exchanges throughout the day. But it is most important to keep hands clean and materials u use, even tape. Anything dropped on the floor has to be thrown out. Actually any form of treatment u do or any access, u have for to make sure anything u use is clean and never touches the floor. Is this what u were looking for in a answer?

Dave, I've been debating with myself between a chest or an abdominal placement for my PD catheter. Did you find the chest placement worked as a permanent location or was the abdominal location better for you?

The general surgeon I just saw didn't seem to have a real preference.

Hi well I had an abdomin line while on PD THAT LASTED 3 years the i got a infection 😬never exspearanced pain like that before 😫 allmost killed me I had to have surgery. To remove my line after about a month and several antibiotics the came to the conclusion the infection was in my line😦that’s when I got a line in my chest to start hemo I was in bad shape so the chest line was supposed to be temporary because it was an emergent to get me back on dialyses thankfully the doctor was thinking ahead and made my chest line perminint it lasted just long enough for me to get my transplant🙏🙏

Yeah that's perfect I've done Peritoneal Dialysis when I was 11 years old for only about 3 months.. and now they want me to go on hemo for maybe a few weeks till we get my donor cleared. But thank you, just wanted to have an idea of what it was like to get the port in your chest. Kinda freaked out

yeah they scare you about a chest port don't get it wet do what they say and you'll befine, i had mine for maybe 3- months before going the peritoneal route got lucky and straight to night cycler after training chest port has one good thing about it you don't get stuck by needles twice doing hemo with a graft or fistula. ha

Getting the “line” port inchest is a simple procedure mine was done in my dialyses unit at the hospital once it was in place I started hemo dialyses immediately after the procedure🙏😝
