I received a call today from my transplant hospital trying to make an appointment for me to get the evolution, monoclonal antibody shots again.
I had one round (two shot in the tush) in 2022, and 6 months later, was given an appointment around February this year after my transplant.
After the appointment was made, I received a call from someone at the hospital where I had my transplant and they canceled the appointment because they learned that the Evusheld monoclonal antibody was found not to be effective against the new Omicron variant of Covid.
Has anybody else heard anything about Evusheld or had the vaccine administered within the last few months?

That is correct. Evusheld is not protective to the newer forms of COVID. Ain't it grand that they make you take all this crap and then find out it doesn't work?
Just as interesting as giving the pharmaceutical companies being given immunity for being sued over the vaccine. Not trying to stir any pots, just making an observation that that is sketchy at best.
Interesting. First I've heard of this. My hubby was receiving them then, like you, was told by his center that they were no longer effective against the most recent Covid (Omicron) strains and the shots stopped. He returned to the center a a couple of weeks ago for his evaluation and there was no mention, none, of resuming them. A quick internet search shows there's no indication (FDA, pharma, etc.) that Evusheld has since been updated, so maybe your caller is relying on old info. Or maybe your center is involved in research? I'd think they'd ask for your consent if it's the latter. I'd probably call the center and ask for clarification.
Yes--Correct. My son had a transplant and like you one round of the shot. His physician informed him that there will be no more given as they are not effective. Apparently the virus has mutated causing the injection not to work.

Hello, I’m in England, so a different situation and Evusheld was not agreed for general rollout on the NHS due to not being effective enough. I understand clinical trials on immunosuppressed participants are starting here on AstraZeneca’s Evusheld2, (Supernova Trial) which is thought to protect against all currently known variants. It’s not likely to be available until the end of the year at the earliest, but it gives me some hope, at least!

Nice!! So apparently there IS an updated Evusheld antibody treatment being researched. Good to know. When I got Covid , my hubby with his new kidney did not. I credit Evusheld for that.
the newest version is nothing but a bad cold. I had it 9 months after transplant. I had no treatment because they were out of antibodies at the time and I recovered fine.
They did not give me a booster either after I had it because they said I now had antibodies.
Yes, I originally got Evusheld last August and now I have been told that it does not work with the new COVID variants. I was positive for COVID in February this year. I virtually had to self-treat my symptoms. I have had the booster shot, so my symptoms were like a bad head cold. The doctors could not give me Paxlovid because of contraindications with my immunosuppressant meds. So, there is nothing they can give transplant patients if they come down with COVID. I am 23+ years post-transplant.
I also had COVID in February. Evusheld has never even been mentioned to me. They gave me Molnupiravir. Has anyone even been tested after the other vaccines to see if antibodies were made? I was told I probably wouldn’t make antibodies.
I just got my transplant 11 weeks ago so I’ve only gotten the regular covid shot and boosters prior to transplant. I know the covid shot is less effective or not effective at all after transplant so I was surprised when my transplant center mentioned that I will need to get another booster soon. I’m going to have to discuss this further with them. Haven’t had covid yet so no natural immunity. Please let us know what you find out.
I was told to get all COVID shots/boosters. They keep changing the vaccine to combat the most recent COVID variant. So, when I got COVID in February of this year 2023, it was a mild case. I felt like I had a bad head cold. From my experience, I will continue to get every COVID vaccine they come out with. I have a friend that also had a transplant and came down with COVID and unvaccinated. She got so sick that it attacked her transplant and is back on the list. I sure don't want to go through that again!
yes, I am definitely for the boosters too but I was under the impression once your transplanted, you get the monoclonal antibody one instead? I am confused!
Monoclonal antibodies were given to transplant recipients and others early on with COVID. With all of the variants out there now, it doesn't work. That is why now you hear about Paxlovid, and depending on your immunosuppressant meds you may not be able to take it. I take Myfortic and Neoral and it is contradicted for Paxlovid
I have had two doses of Evusheld, which is a monoclonal antibody - kind of another preventative. But COVID has changed over the years and it no longer works. That is why now, it is so important to have whatever vaccine is current. I just had the new booster that just came out in the last month or so. I did have the booster and flu shot back in September
Please protect yourself and get every COVID booster that comes out!
no paxlovid with my transplant medications , but they put me on Molnupiravir immediately and I did well with COVID. I have reservations with getting the new COVID vaccines. It’s a personal decision for all.
