There Is Hope & Healing For CKD - My Story

I wanted to share my experience and journey with CKD with all. I was diagnosed with CKD stage 3 about four years ago when my eGFR went to 57. I saw two nephrologists over the course of four years and had many renal tests done as well as blood work every six months. My eGFR numbers kept decreasing even lower to 51 and creatinine was creeping up. I panicked as I was so fearful of where it was headed. I read volumes about CKD and joined this amazing forum that had been so very encouraging and helpful to me. I watched numerous YouTube videos from experts in kidney disease and did everything recommended.

At first I went on a very low protein diet and bought (very expensive) Albutrix supplements. I drank lots of water and was barely eating any protein. I cut out meat altogether and just ate vegetables and fruit in an effort to curtail the decreasing kidney function. Nothing was helping my kidneys!

In the course of my research I discovered that resveratrol and LDN (which I started taking for an autoimmune issue) as well as intermittent fasting was reportedly beneficial for improving kidney function. I also prayed continually in faith believing that Jesus is my Healer.

Lo and behold, my numbers started improving gradually. I started eating more protein as my protein levels were decreasing to the abnormally low range and I was actually becoming malnourished.

I increased the resveratrol and LDN. My numbers started improving six months ago. And to my very happy unexpected surprise my last lab values done last week showed a significant improvement in my kidney function — I almost couldn’t believe the numbers!! I was flabbergasted! My creatinine went way down to .77 and the eGFR increased 30 points and is now 81 (and I am 73 years old)!!!

All the rest of my parameters are normal and my nephrologist said my kidney function is excellent and above normal for my age - even better than his!

I even began eating fish and a few of my favorite foods in moderation (meat only occasionally). I stay within healthy protein intake for my weight but not low protein as before. I am being very careful not to stress my kidneys and keep them in optimal condition. I take an ARB for slightly elevated blood pressure and migraine prevention (but I had been on that for years without any effect on my kidney function) I walk every day for 30 minutes

So, yes, indeed, THERE CERTAINLY IS HOPE for CKD. I had read numerous times that the kidneys can’t be restored once they start to decline. But I am seeing wonderful evidence that FAITH CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS and there is great benefit from modalities that conventional medicine does not promote. I can send links providing information on the success of resveratrol in improving kidney function as well as LDN (low dose naltrexone) and intermittent fasting. But the greatest thing I attribute to the healing of my kidney function is prayer and faith, and the blessing of God.

I hope this is an encouragement to others who are feeling pessimistic about their kidney decline as I was for years. Life can be joyful again…there is always, always hope in God while we are breathing. Never ever give up…have faith! Praying for you all. 💛🙏

I take resveratrol 1,000 mg daily (there are several good brands available on Amazon. I use either Approved Science or MAAC10 - Trans Resveratrol) LDN is usually prescribed but you can get it online at Ageless RX (agelessrx.com) after a doctor’s online evaluation.

I also take ½ teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in water every day. I try to drink several large glasses of water every day as well. And I pray…pray…pray a lot to Jesus 🙏🙏🙏 Prayers for you too!

thank you ..I will look into …what does the sodium bicarbonate do ? 👌🏻

sodium bicarbonate alkalizes and makes your body less acidic which is hard on the kidneys.

Actually it does help the kidneys and quite a few nephrologists recommend it! Look up sodium bicarbonate and kidney function on reputable web sites. I have done much research on it and I did notice benefit to my kidney (as well as other organs) while taking it.

I get my herbs on Amazon. I will get the 500mg resveratrol maac10 and see if it works. I did feel good when I was taking it. Yes, it's about talking to the lord every chance you get he never gets tired of us.

Thats wonderful news! I'll definitely be researching these options. God bless you...stay well.

Yes, God is the power drug. I also took 1000mg resveratrol but had to stop after 2 weeks my joints started hurting. I'm happy because you give me more reason to get off my butt and do more exercise. Thank you and God bless you for sharing.

Thank you for your encouragement! I'm in a similar situation although I'm just 53. About 3.5 years ago I had a regular blood test and my GFR was 53. That was around 2019. Looking back to 2015 test, it was 88! The doctor didn't even tell me or show any concern with the low number in 2019-- but I saw it, researched it and then was scared. The doctor was convinced it was due to my occasional Meloxicam use for a condition I have of red/burning feet. Then not long after, the Pandemic hit and I had put off going for my annual check up. I finally got back in about 12 days ago now. All my bloodwork is good except the GFR was 52. Albumin, and Creatnine all within regular limits. The BUN was 27, but the B/C ratio 24 so it was normal. I am overweight but only health problem prior to this is severe anemia due to a congenital hiatal hernia that requires quarterly iron IV. No diabetes nor high blood pressure. In my 20's I had PCOS and it was severe causing scarring on ovaries and infertility but I successfully had a child after fertility help. Around three years prior to getting the GFR of 53, I had developed some strange health issues: burning and red feet and some pressure-burning sensations in my bladder. I had all kinds of extensive testing including testing for Rheumatoid etc and nothing. But my SED rate was triple or more meaning inflammation was present but no one could say why. I had CT's as I was convinced the doctors were missing something. Nothing was found. Anyway, I'm now going to find a specialist to check on the kidney and also to look into the reason my feet are red/dusky when they are not propped up. I assumed it was erythromelalgia and my doctor agreed, or at least it is some form of small fiber neuropathy. In 2013 is when I was found to have severe anemia due to bleeding of the hiatal hernia. The following year I started a demanding job where I work very long hours on the computer. So, I'm much less active as a result and I don't drink enough water or fluids. I guess I have not taken good enough care of myself! I have read that Reservatrol was good for CKD, but I was hesitant due to the Iron Deficiency Anemia--- I too have cut way down on my meat and sodium intake recently and was hoping that with other supplements I've started (the list is long----Omega 3, CoQ10, Vitamin E, Folate, Sodium Bicarbonate, and a few other supplements from a list I found online. I researched each one to see the benefits to the kidney and thought I have nothing to lose. But I'm extremely curious as to which supplement you think helped make this difference for you---since you said dietary changes alone did not. Was it when you started reservatrol or LDN? Any additional information about LDN would greatly be appreciated!! I am inspired by your determination and faith. If you would not mind sharing i.e. how long after you started the two supplements that you saw improvement, and how long you have taken them, etc. Thank you and God Bless!

I started taking the LDN about a year ago for an autoimmune issue at a very low dose and gradually increased it up to 4.5 mg the past couple of months. That is something you can Google online as it is used for anti-inflammatory purposes and different autoimmune disorders. But I also read during my research that it can help kidney function when there is inflammation in the kidneys.

I started using resveratrol about six months ago and that’s when I started noticing a slight increase in my kidney function so I increased that as well and I’m now taking 1000 mg of resveratrol daily.

I also started intermittent fasting a few months ago as I also read that can benefit many systems in the body including the kidneys. So I eat for eight hours a day and fast 16 hours (or I try to every day).

I take ½ teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in water every day as that is very beneficial for kidneys.

But the greatest credit that I attribute to all my improvement is the blessing of God and prayer in the name of Jesus. I was devastated when I first learned having CKD and read that it was something that could not be reversed. But I am a strong believer in God and in the word of God .. I know ALL THINGS are possible with Him, so I just kept faith that God would heal me. So the combination of the natural modalities that I utilized and faith I was able to see the great improvement in my numbers of the kidney function.

Prayers for your health. 🙏

..and are you taking resveratrol for your kidneys or did you start it for something else?

I am taking it for several health issues for anti-inflammatory effects of resveratrol (blood sugar, autoimmune modulation as well as to increase kidney function). Resveratrol has many benefits!
