DEALING WITH STRESS

There has been a lot of talk lately about dealing with stress. The AMA and the AHA have worked together and have a great piece on dealing with this and I've included the information below. I hope these tips help. I've actually used several of these tips when I worked with teens, so if you are a parent or grandparent numbers 1, 2, 3, and 5 worked very well with tweens and teens.

1. Count to 10 before you speak a word.

2. Take a few slow, deep breaths until you feel your body unclench a bit.

3. Go for a walk, even if it's just to the restroom and back. It can help break the tension and give you a chance to think things through.

4. Try a quick meditation or prayer to get some perspective.

5. If it's not urgent, sleep on it and respond tomorrow. This works especially well for stressful emails and social media trolls.

6. Walk away from the situation for a while, and handle it later once things have calmed down.

7. Break down big problems into smaller parts. Take one step at a time instead of trying to tackle everything at once.

8. Chill out with music or an inspirational podcast to help you rage less on the road.

9. Take a break to pet the dog, hug a loved one or help someone out.

10. Work out or do something active. Exercise is one of the best antidotes for stress.

Great recommendations. I would like to add one more. Go sit outside in a green space. Nature is a big healer and calmer.

I’d like to ask a question. I’ve been Ising Curalin for T2D. It is effective!!! My A1C is at a 5.9 right now. Had a tumor removed from kidney two years ago. I’m now in stage 3 ckd. Only been on Curalin for about 10 months. Can I keep taking it??? Nothing works like it!!!

Only your physician can answer that for you as they know your specific health issues. You need to speak to your nephrologist and your PCP about taking any supplement. I only take supplements that my physicians recommend. I use diet and exercise to control my hypertension, diabetes, and CKD. My last A1c was 4.7, my GFR has averaged 52 for the previous 4 years, and my blood pressure average for the last five months has been 124/72. Most supplements aren't well regulated so be careful.

My meal plan was designed specifically for me based on my diabetes, kidney disease, and hypertension. Low sodium foods and I use herbs and spices for flavor instead of salt. I eat no trans fats since I had my gallbladder removed. No sweets and nothing that turns into bad carbs when digested. I haven't had to go vegan or vegetarian and my meal plan allows for poultry and seafood. Portion control is critical and by far the largest portion on my plate is the veggies. If you can, obtain a referral to meet with a renal dietitian and bring your previous lab reports, and design something for you.Best of luck.

Thank you. I have my first appointment with nephrologist April 13. I’m sure she will send me to a dietician. I was just asking for some meal ideas. I have all three as well. Ckd t2d and high blood pressure. I feel like I can’t eat anything!! Lost my son 265 days ago. I’ve literally cried for 265 days now. I’ve tried meditation, prayer but the stress of losing my son is terrible. Anyway I don’t want to take up anymore of your time. Thank you for everything ❤️

I use the davita.com site and they have a RECIPES link that provides many recipes that will work for you. Adjust each one to fit your needs. The RD will show you how to make substitutions that will work for you. I know which veggies I like and I substitute ones I like for ones I don't. No added salt just a variety of herbs and spices. Good luck
