Morning pain

I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing what I am.

Every morning between 4 and 5 AM, my back starts hurting. It may or may not be my kidneys hurting I’m not sure. But it’s in that general area. It hurts no matter which way I turn or lay. About the only thing that helps is getting out of bed. This started back in October. Anybody else?

Hi Lavender, I have a few questions. Does it hurt anytime you lay down on your back? Do you move a lot in your sleep? ( I do not and I lay on may back and so with time, I too get a pain on my back. I literally do not move unless I get up) Have you had a scan for kidney stones. Do you make sure you have water before going to bed. You may be becoming very dehydrated. The first thing I thought of was to flip your mattress or spin it around. That can make a big difference.

What stage CKD are you?

Hi, I’m stage 5. I sleep on my side. I do move from side to side throughout the night. Sometimes on my back. I do flip the mattress from time to time, and I drink some water before bed when I take a nighttime pill.

I'm thinking a stone as well.

It would hurt only in the morning?

If this started back in October, it probably isn't a stone. It most likely would have passed by now or the pain would have gotten progressively worse.

Hi there

You probably have to answer a few questions, and talk to your doctor about them.

Do you feel the pain only in the morning? Does it ease throughout the day?

Does the pain wake you up or or you just feel it after you wake up?

Does it worsen when you move (is it mechanical) ?

If you google morning back pain that goes away during the day, kidney stone is the first thing to pop up. But you have to have other symptoms, too, I guess.

I've been experiencing morning flank pain and mid back pain for a couple months now. It gets better when I stretch and eases gradually during the day. And usually it goes away before mid afternoon...

Ultrasound showed nothing. No UTI...

Yesterday, my doctor wrote me a prescription for a skeletal muscle relaxant (Tizanidine). I don't know if it's going to work. I hope it is...

The pain is only in the morning, it wakes me up sometimes, but mostly I feel it when I wake up. It goes away in about 30 minutes after I get up and move around. It is not worse when I move around.

Being at stage 5, it is not unusual. Sleep is not our friend at that stage. There are nights when I swear I am sleeping on a pile of rocks. I have found that I am at best only able to sleep around four hours, then have to get up usually to pee. But I can usually get back to sleep for another four hours. But I too, will be stiff and in pain in the mid back. Sorry, not much help other than understanding.

Thanks, all of that is good to know. I’m sorry you are going through the same thing, but I’m glad to know I’m not weird.
