Foamy urine, 24 hr urine shows "urine protein" 0.54 g/d, Urine phosphate 33mmol/d

Friends, I am a 36 years old male. In 2011 I had a Uteroscopy for a kidney stone and in 2014 I had a surgery for hydrocele. For the last 8 years , I am observe that my urine foams in the toilet, which I indicated several times to various doctors. They mentioned it happens sometimes. But recently I can see that it increased a lot, so decided to consult my doctor again to do a thorough check up. She suggested 24 hr urine test, which flagged 2 values as "A"(I assume A means abnormal). Those are Urine Protein (0.54 g/d) and Urine phosphate (33 mmol/d). My creatine is 16.6 mmol/d in 24 hr test. Also there was a blood test down on the same day, which shows GFR as 103, Creatinine as umol/L, Albumin as 50.4g/L(indicated as "A"). I don't see anything odd with my body till this moment, like swelling or itching or blood in urine etc. What will the issue? Please help, I am trying to get more insight on this. All I see in the internet is "kidney failure" or "CKD" . Kindly help with your experiences with foamy urine , thanks in advance

With a GFR of 103, I am pretty sure you do not have to worry. I am not a doctor and I do not understand all the other readings. So talk to your doctor. I think you might be looking for something that is not there. When a stream hits a bowl of water, no matter what the liquid is, there is the possibility of the pressure of the stream to add air to the water causing bubbles. It happens when I fill a pot of water for the stove.

Hello Abinjaik! I suppose the difficulty for anyone here to try to determine the cause for the foamy urine is, it could mean something like extra protein in the urine which could indicate CKD, or it may just be your toilet cleanser that has left some residue behind and happened to react in combination with your healthy urine. Unfortunately, this is not something that we can provide you assurance on, the most we can offer you is advice to ask your doctor.

Your GFR sounds awesome. If I had to offer you advice based on that, I would say try drinking more water on the possibility that it is a little extra protein in your urine (better still, ask your doctor what amount of water per day you should be drinking), and see if it resolves itself. Or, as Bassetmommer suggested, it may just be the strength of the flow of urine creating the bubbles.

The foamy urine is a sympton of extra protien in the urine. I have had this for years. It is a sign that your kidneys are failing to filter out all of the protein and dumping some of it into the urine (at least thats how I understand it). From my experience, reducing salt and sugar in your diet will help, as it will ease up on the daily pressure for your kidneys.

Thanks Bassetmommer , MP11 , Sammi_n_Munk , KidneyCoach for your valuable comments. I will change my diet to reduce red meat, low salt, sugar one and have more water, because it doesnt harm. I have my Specialist appointment on March 6th, lets see how it goes.

Another stupid question from side : If there is damage to Testicles or if have issue with my reproductive system, Does that cause foamy urine? Because its all protein or albumin right?. The reason I am thinking on that side is because I had "Hydrocele" surgery in 2014 and if during that surgery it caused any damage to it.... This is one question, I am planning to ask with my Nephrologist/Specialist.... But thought to have other's perspective as well...

Hey there, Jake! I did some research on hydrocele and trauma to the scrotum. If I understood it correctly, sometimes, if the hydrocele is caused by some type of injury, depending on how severe it is, it’s possible to see blood in your urine. I didn’t read anything that mentioned protein, however.

It would be a great idea to ask your nephrologist, as you said, just to be sure. She / he can advise you the best on that. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been through so much distress, though. I hope you’re feeling better now.
