air flight and kidney disease
That’s a good question. I don’t think so, but a nephrologist would be best to ask.
Seek advice from your nephrologist. You may or may not be able to travel depending on your destination. I flew a month before my transplant surgery and my GFR was around 11. If your physician approves your travel plans, wear a mask on the plane and use hand sanitizer frequently just so you don’t pick up new germs and get sick.
Yes, it is safe to travel. There are a lot of people already on dialysis that go to Europe, cruises, etc and have it set up ahead of time to get their dialysis.
By all means check with your nephrologist, but mine had told me that you still need to live life! We went on a trip to Germany, prior to my transplant. We had a great time, even though I did have to rest a lot.
When you have CKD it does not mean that you have to stay home and not have any fun!
Enjoy life!
