I am at GFR of 10 and preparing to soon go for PD catheter surgery so I can start dialysis.
I met with several renal dietitians. So far, they are giving me information pamphlets with list of food items that are high in sodium, in potassium and in phosphorus. What to avoid and what is ok to eat from these lists.
I'm trying to memorize these lists so that when I'm grocery shopping or happens to eat out, I can tailor my choices to these lists.
However, I find it difficult to remember what's on what list, whether something is to avoid or good to eat.
What are some of the tips and tricks that have work for you in following your renal diets? Especially when one can't cook at home all the time.

Do you have a cell phone? I Google things while I am shopping or eating out to see what they have in them. Just Google "nutritional value of ....." It also helps if you use a planner such as Davita.com where you can plan the day, week or month out.
