Apple cider vinegar

I have ckd stage 3b. Before finding this out a year ago, for health benefits and to get rid of water retention, I would drink a little apple cider vinegar on a daily basis. When I found out my kidneys were damaged, I stopped. I would like to start taking it again and have googled around looking to see if it's a good or bad idea with my condition and haven't found any good info. Does anyone here know if would be bad for my kidneys? Does anyone drink it and not have bad effects from it?

Not a good idea.... and here's why:

"Your body’s pH is a measure of your body’s acidity and alkalinity. Severe acidity can lead to a number of health problems, like acidosis — which affects the kidneys and lungs — and kidney stones." healthline.com/health/apple...

The balance of acid in your blood can make a big difference on your kidneys. Too much uric acid can cause stones.

What I found out there about weight lose using apple cider does not convince me it really works. More important is to be protective of your kidneys with stage 3b. There are better ways to lose weight.

Well I appreciate your reply but I also don't believe it will help with weight lose. That's not why i have used it in the past. And maybe I have my imformation wrong but from what I've read, it is recommended for people who have gout because it lowers your uric acid levels.

The benefits of apple cider vinegar have not been medically proven. We would suggest talking with your doctor before trying any natural home remedies. For general information on herbal supplements please visit: kidney.org/atoz/content/her...

Hi Xcskirunride, I have ckd stage 3b as well and I have been taking apple cider vinegar for few years. It's very good for you because it does alkaline the body, we have too much acides in our body.

Good morning! Have your kidney levels improved or stayed the same with the Apple Cider Vinegar? How Often are you taking ACV and how much?

Hi, I drink it every day. Here’s why. The more alkaline your body is the better. There are foods along with acv that are alkaline and better for you than acidic foods. I strive to keep my ph at 7 or greater and usually do. Hope this helps 😀

Thank you, I'll have to research more about alkaline foods! How to you keep track of your ph? Do you use the ph strips that you can buy and use at home?

No, I get the results when I do my labs every 2 months. But the strips would be a good idea!!

Thanks Bunkin. My dr tells me my uric acid levels are high but I'm not sure where to find this result in my blood work. And I'm assuming uric acid level and ph are the same??

According to a quick research, blood work has to be ordered to determine level of uric acid in blood. The test is also called a "serum uric acid test." There was a "hit" in google search indicating "20 Foods That Reduce Uric Acid...." including pinto beans, sunflower seeds, lentils." Stopping or reducing alcohol consumption if you drink; weight loss; stop diuretic pills if you are taking any.
