Severe Flank Pain

Just wondering if other's have ever suffered sudden onset of severe flank pain ? The pain was so severe I could not breathe, walk or move. I ended up in the hospital over the weekend as a result. They informed me that a cyst had burst from my PKD. I cannot recall doing anything overly physical or lifting anything to heavy prior to this happening. I guess I am just trying to figure out what happened, as this was the worst pain I have experienced short of my knee replacements, and I do not want to go through it again.

I am so sorry that you had to suffer and go through a weekend in the hospital. It's not your ideal weekend retreat- the most important thing is that you are okay and have no sepsis.

I am not an expert, but it appears to me that the cyst was rupturing and burst causing the pain. Perhaps another community member has experienced what you have and will shed light on the experience.

Like other cysts, you don't have to do anything to cause it. Ovarian cysts rupture without heavy lifting.

Why? I would discuss it with your doctor when you go in for your follow up. Answers should be provided to you.

I agree with what Bet117 said; that anything or nothing may have caused the burst. Rest and heal and hopefully the doctors can do something to prevent that from happening again.
