My last appointment with the nephrologist was disappointing. One good thing is that my eGFR came up 10 points. The disappointment is that my kidney disease is no longer in remission. I'm spilling 4.5g of protein. The doctor increased my blood pressure medicine, so here's hoping this increase in medicine is going to do the trick!

Judblue,

Stay strong ! You have my support. Try to find one good thing in each day to get you through.

I know your frustration.

My November test showed an increase in protein spilling from 2.9 to 3.8. My nephrologist increased my Lisinopril to 10mg twice per day as my BP is low to low normal. I eat minimal protein which is plant based and drink lots of water.

Like you, I am hoping this and an eventual change of statin will lower or stabilize the spilling.

Keep your head up. Let me know how you are doing.

BTW, what BP medication are you on?

Never alone as we are all here.

Take Care..

Hi Bet, thank you for your support. I take Losartan, 50mg. daily. I eat very little animal protein, so I get my protein from plant sources. I'm allowed 60oz. fluid daily, which is hard because I'm always drinking water and other non-carbonated drinks. I have other issues that impact my kidneys. I'm really grateful for the support here. Your reply helped... thank you.

Hi Judblue,

No thanks needed! Wish I could do more!

Thanks for the 411 on your BP medication. I have questioned that the Lisinopril may be causing an allergic reaction and increasing my spilling. I actually looked into the Losartan as an alternative for discussion, although the doctors all swear by the Lisinopril. Both are well tolerated, popular and protect the kidneys. So you are helping.

I was given Crestor in Sept. of 2016..and the protein climbed. When I read about it on Drugs.com, it specifically said that it is not recommended for people with microscopic Proteinuria and Hematuria, which I have.

Annoyed, my endocrinologist took me off that and put me on Lipitor 10mg..and finally took me off that in November as I had horrific back aching and climbing protein. My TSH.. thyroid also went up..so he feels that somewhere there is a drug interaction. Since off the Lipitor, the pain under my right back rib is subsiding. I will not allow my endocrinologist to put me back on either after he re- checks my thyroid levels after the holidays.

Always something. My DX is Membraneous Nephropathy.

What plant based food do you eat? Please share!

I live on apples, strawberries, blueberries. I love salad with veggies and oil and vinegar dressing. Also, steamed veggies. My protein is hummus which is portion controlled. I am not a tofu fan, and find that the veggie burgers are high sodium.

I have no animal protein at all. My dairy is..5 cup of Lite and Fit Greek Yogurt if that.

I drink 50 to 60 oz of water a day and socially, tea.

So I am interested in sharing ideas.

When you get a second, get back to me.

I am behind you all the way!

Again, thanks..

Hi Bet,

Thanks for the information on the diet! My son eats lentils for plant based protein! A favourite being split green gram (moong) cooked with Ginger garlic, green chilies and turmeric. With spices such as cumin and coriander tampered in a tsp of olive oil mixed with clarified butter added to the cooked lentil.

Occasionally a stir fry with onion, tofu and peppers of different colors cooked with different spices! He also marinates the tofu with pinch of pepper and a little salt and lemon juice or white vinegar to increase taste.

He also makes boiled egg whites curry- not plant based but good protein source!

Grateful for more on plant based food! Also any good oil/ cooking medium you have information on or use will be great.

Thanks!
