Calories Consumed: 1628

*5 a Day* Achieved: Yes

Activity/Exercise: 165 mins

Approx Calories used: 650

What a day!!

I had a real burst of energy today so this morning I cleaned all my skirting boards, gave my carpets a deep clean, got down on my hands & knees to vigorously brush down my stairs and took the kids on a brisk walk to our local farm shop to buy eggs... *phew*

BTW, I bought half a dozen local duck eggs, haven't had duck eggs before, I have now and I can say yes, I like them :) the girls weren't so sure "they've got green shells, Mummy", actually, I think they're duck egg blue, I'll give them one next time I do scrambled egg. ;)

My disappointment came when I tallied up my calories :( over my 1400kcal guide by 228kcals :( gutted *sigh* what took me over? Cooking my omelette at dinner in British cold pressed rapeseed oil. (1 tablespoon = 224kcals) I wont be doing that again.

I am determined to end the day on an up, so, even though I ate more calories than I thought, it is still a great deal less that I would have eaten last week before starting on this 12 week plan AND I burned off so much that it was as though I'd had less than 1000kcals today!!

All in all a good day I feel :)

Tomorrow is Good Friday. I have Hubby & my Girls with me and I'm trying to persuade Hubby that a nice long walk down Bournemouth way would do us all good. ;)

Hope you have a good day too.

Hi Tabytha

I think you did a great job. keeping moving is at the best way to keep your metabolism working efficiently. To manage those fats you don't think about like coating the pan before cooking have you tried the low fat sprays? They are a really good way of stopping food sticking without adding lots of calories

keep up the good work

Thanks Susan :)

I think it's more of a habit, I've got non-stick pans so in theory I shouldn't need any oil at all ;)

I'll look into the strays.

Hi Tabytha,

One of the points that the Hairy Dieters made during one of their programmes was that the pans we use nowadays are usually NON-STICK. So, we shouldn't really need to put significant amounts of oil/fat in them at all.

I, too, nowadays use one of those spray things - when I use anything at all. Sometimes, if the bacon has just a tad of fat left on it, I don't even use that.

And that's the point, with non-stick pans, you only need the tiniest smidgen really of something.

Even if you use a traditional oil, (be that sunflower / olive or whatever), dampen a paper kitchen towel with a little and just wipe the pan over with it, rather than putting the oil into the pan and you'll end up with less on your food and therefore less calories going into yourself.

I've now realised that I had got used to various foods not tasting of the food itself, but tasting of bacon, egg or whatever covered in olive oil.

I've been discovering what they really taste like!

It's like so many things - human beings tend to normalise whatever their current routines are. It's only when they make changes that they actually realise how good, bad or indifferent those ways were.

Funny you should mention the Hairy Bikers, I've just bought their book "Hairy Dieters"... I'm looking forward to trying out some of their recipes. :)

Tabytha,

You are in for a real treat with this book. I have had the book for a number of months and my whole family looks forward to me cooking recipes from it for dinner. I quite often bulk the recipes out with extra veg so I can bring leftovers into work next day for my lunch. Doesn't half make my colleagues jealous!
