Counting calories is time consumming.

For the whole of 2011 I dieted and strictly counted calories. I did not exercise and lost 2 and a half stones down to 12 stone 12lbs. The biggest discouragement was spending so much time searching through calorie counting books, listing and counting calories. Surely there must be an easier way to count calories.

Lucky me, I want to lose just 7 more lbs back to 12st 12lbs

Hi UncleMo,

Personally - and it's surely a case of each to their own - I agree. I do have a pretty good awareness of the calories of the food I eat and the high-calorie foods that I need to avoid. Beyond that I try to not get too mathematical about it all.

I have however seriously upped the exercise/activity which I definately recommend to people. Also, I do measure portions properly nowadays, so 40g of pasta isn't just a general 'dollop' from the pack into the pot any more!

(Of course one of the reasons I don't strictly count calories is that I'll quite often give my dog a bit of my dinner and life's just too short to spend working out how many less calories that means I've taken in!)

Then, on the other hand, I weigh myself daily - mainly to keep an eye on the trend and to ensure I'm not losing weight too quickly, so that I can make adjustments if and as necessary.

Good luck with the 7 lbs - I've got about 19 kilos to go yet.

I'm very envious of the ONLY 7lbs to go, excellent! Beautiful result.

Hi Doiskosp, I did over time get the hang of what was good or naughty for weight loss.

Allev8, I say just 7lbs, as that'll make my BMI just below 'overweight'.

If I lose any more it comes off my face and neck and makes me look horribly gaunt. I'll put up with the slight tummy. Just 10 days last August; 999 emergency hospital treatment, I lost 1 and a half stones making me just 11 stone 12lbs I still had that little tummy, but my face and neck looked awful , old thin and gaunt. So I deliberately ate like a pig to get my young face back. My missus says whatever, you've still got a nice bum. Bless her x

One way to track Calorie intake is by using a spreadsheet. I use MS Excel, only because most PCs have it installed on them.

The trick is to list all the foods on one sheet, then use the “LOOKUP” function and allow selection using right mouse “Pick from drop-down list” to fill in a daily record. Computers making like easier!
