What proportions of protein/fat/carbs etc should my meals consist of to help me lose weight?

Mostly my problems have been that my 'plate' has been far too weighted towards fat and carbs and just far too weighty!

The eatwell plate is a useful guide but if your question is about a specific meal, the advice from the Dept of Health is to aim for at least 2 portions of vegetables at each meal. The idea is that vegetables should take up the bulk of the space on your plate, that way you're less likely to overeat protein and fat. This is all explained in the NHS Choices weight loss plan.
