Hi Nady5! I’m new and probably can’t offer much advice. I can only offer what I’ve learned from my fitness classes which is that it’s not a thing to lose weight on one specific area (eg stomach). A flat belly comes with two things. First is the obvious weight loss. Fat needs to be lost but you can’t target areas. The second is toning. Core exercises will compliment any weight loss attempts and will help you to target a certain area. Good luck!

51?? You’re a baby! Im 55 and was a total couch potato in my twenties. I’d have to work really hard at sitting in front of the tv to get as unfit as I was then!

I'm 58 and hate most cardio but love boxing! It's brilliant for burning calories, toning up plus I vent all my frustrations and stuff by punching it out. Give it a try! 😁

I suspect exercise is the best answer to target specific areas unless you want to resort to surgery. I did see someone claim that if you got your body fat down into single digits all the loose skin disappears but I don't think anyone has proved it yet :p

Thank you for answering me. I know answer is the best answer , but I needed quick answer, if you know what I mean ....

What do you mean by “body fat down into single digits all the loose skin disappears....”

This is something I saw on a bodybuilding site and refers to getting your body fat percentage below 10% of your total weight. This normally only happens when bodybuilders do some intense dieting for a couple of weeks to make their muscles pop for the competition. It is very extreme and not a stat to remain in for more than a couple of weeks. It's almost like a 20 stone bloke aspiring to look like Mo Farrah.

Hi and welcome, Nady5 :)

I'm afraid weight loss isn't linear and it's not possible to target specific areas. Eating a low carb diet is said to assist with visceral fat, which can cause a protruding belly and exercise can increase muscle mass and tone your body, it's also good for health and well-being.

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum healthunlocked.com/?tour=true

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

Do you have health or disability issues that mean you can’t exercise? If not, best exercise for a flat tum is Pilates I’d say. You can’t eat or not eat things that will take weight off a particular area I’m afraid.

Hello... firstly if you are loosing weight for a health problem - well done you - is the next step perhaps one of being kind to yourself.... and recognising how far you have come... Flat Belly yeah ok.... its on the list - but dont let it be the thing that makes you negate everything you have can and will achieve.. 51 is a number and its better to go forward and see what life can bring... (Flat belly I am sure being one of them !)

As many have said, you can’t spot lose fat but visceral fat is very responsive to diet and exercise (and reducing stress). I have found my stomach flattening even without huge falls on the scales from reducing sugar, going to be earlier for more sleep and Pilates.

I also make sure I do 10k steps each day - even if this involves marching around my sitting room as it did last night! Being active (Getting your and walking, putting music on and dancing, marching on the spot whilst cooking) for a lot of the day is as good as intensive exercise a few times a week for me.

Good luck

Hello Nady5, wow loosing 2 stone in 21 days is very quick, that’s more then a pound a day! I think you need to be kind to yourself, your 51 and have high blood pressure, personally I wouldn’t worry about tummy fat. I would just concentrate on loosing the weight to get to a healthy BMI, you may well find in slowly loosing the weight your tummy fat will just naturally go down. Walking can bring down blood pressure, personally I would start with that if you haven’t done much exercise. One can also of cause do things like swimming if your local pool is open, and cycling these are gentle forms and excellent when you are in your fifties. I’m not saying you can’t do other things it obviously depends on your fitness level. I’ve seen lots of people where I live doing the couch to 5k and all I see is people in their fifties limping and parts of their body strapped, I’m sure that can’t be that healthy.

I wish you luck in reaching a healthy BMI and lower blood pressure and hopefully in the process a flatter tummy. GOOD LUCK😊

Thank you so much about your wisdom of how to loose weight and worry instead of the BMI.

I will do as advice.

You read my mind about doing the swimming.,which was my best idea.

Will push myself to end. It has been a struggle to start going.
