Day 186: Enjoying Myself.

Today I took the first tentative steps back in to my journey, knowing that I have to take it easy. I have had a lot of advice from so many people and will look at utilising that over the coming weeks. The main thing is I am enjoying the journey again.

What advice will you be following up on? Any of the things I referred to when you last posted, the positive suggestions from when you posted on the Daily Diary? Or the Diet Myths posted by TeamAdmin? Or to get involved by sharing your plans on the Daily Diary on a regular basis, which will be much more productive and interactive than posting two or three lines here? Or joining in any of the Events, Clubs and Challenges in Pinned Posts?

I'm pleased to hear you are enjoying things again but it's really difficult to make any useful response when you post so little, on an almost daily basis, and don't get involved in forum activities.

Hi BridgeGirl. I don't normally do mornings on here because I am too busy, but I thought I would take time out to respond to you, as you have responded twice to me. I watched the videos in the link you posted and also watched other videos on YouTube and on the internet that say different things to the stuff the dietician was saying in her video. There were definitely some interesting things she talked about. I also read the advice given by others about cutting carbs out and including more fat but two things stops me from doing it.

Firstly, I am trying to be balanced in my diet and I also know that, once I reach my goal weight, I still want to eat carbs. I eat lots of protein throughout the day, like high protein yoghurts and fruit in the morning for breakfast, and a chicken sandwich or chicken salad for lunch. I complete a daily diary in MyFitnessPal, so don't want to then repeat myself as I am short on time as it is, contrary to popular opinion about being home in the lockdown. And whilst I agree that I should possibly join in on more things on here because everyone is so supportive, I also know that I don't have the time or energy to do much more than I already am (I'm not retired, unemployed and have a house to run and four kids to look after and trying to get them to do their home learning is a full time job as it is). I wake up at 6.30am every morning and don't actually stop until 11p; I think I am working more now than I did before the lockdown.

I know that I need to join in more to get the most out of this site, and I have posted on the 'fit is fun' to try and join in. But time in a day is finite and I have to be efficient in the time I spend on things. I will try and post in the Daily Diary a few more times, but if I keep getting the same advice to 'cut carbs and eat more fat' - which is fine for some but not for me - then the advice I will be getting won't really help me. Additionally, when you responded last time you talked about getting advice from those who were successful in losing weight...I've lost 1 stone 7lbs doing what I have been doing: I'd say that was pretty successful?

If you have any advice about how to maintain muscle mass whilst still losing weight...I'm all ears. If you think there are specific clubs or challenges I should join, again, I'm all ears. Is there any more than 5 pinned posts? I can't find them if there are. Also any advice on eating that doesn't involve LCHF is also appreciated.

I understand that you are trying to support me and give me good advice and I really appreciate it.

The outstanding feature of this forum is the level of mutual support. It is set up for interaction, with Events, Clubs, Challenges and posts on the open forum where we can enter into "conversations" with each other to share information, offer encouragement or simply cheer each other on our way. Blogging alone doesn't fit well with that ethos.

In the spirit of mutuality, how about each time you post you seek out 2-3 posts from newbies or members who are struggling and give them an encouraging reply? Does that seem a fair balance of give and take, which is what the forum runs on?

Regarding Pinned Posts, there are currently 12, including 9 activities to get involved with: these change over time. Click on Pinned Posts and scroll down to see them all.

I understand the Daily Diary isn't for you: nothing suits all of us and you're happy with your way of eating and logging your meals. Perhaps you'll rejoin your weigh in team at the weekend and I hope you enjoy Fit is Fun: as with the weigh in, the expectation is that everyone posting reply to others, to share the support around.

I'm sorry, I'm no use on your query about maintaining muscle mass when losing weight, other than what I can see by Googling. Maybe some of the Fit is Fun folks would have experience and tips to share.

I think you're right that I should be more supportive of others on here and I will try and do that from now on. I tried to click on 'pinned posts' but nothing happened, Google simply asked me if I wanted to know what that word was!😜 I also intend to rejoin the weigh in as soon as I start weighing myself again.

Thanks for the advice.

Are you using the app? If so, ditch it and go to the website from your browser.

Glad your enjoying your journey again? What are your goals?

Hi Tessa, my goal is, at the moment, to get under 12 stone. Once I've done that I'll set myself another. Small steps.
