Hi. My name is Charlene and I have just joined. I am starting my weight loss journey today! I am currently about 4.5 stone overweight. It has crept up on me slowly over the last 10 years and now I need to fix it! I am 40 next year and the hubby is taking me to Rome so my aim is to be able to look at holiday photos without cringing lol. I also have osteoarthritis which has been worsened by my excess weight so I’m hoping the new regime will help with that too. I have just signed up for the C25K plan and will do my first run today (scary, as I have no no exercise since school about 25 years ago!) wow that was a long intro post lol hope to get some support and motivation here and maybe provide the same for others, thanks for having me!

Hi and welcome, Sofasitter :)

I really like the C25K programme, but am wary when people that are significantly overweight and haven't done much exercise recently take it up, because it's so easy to injure yourself. Have you considered losing a bit of weight and increasing your fitness levels gradually with walking first, especially as you have osteoarthritis?

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum healthunlocked.com/?tour=true

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

Thank you . I was nervous myself the last thing I want to do is get injured and then be unable to exercise at all! I completed the first run yesterday and it was a killer. To be honest I think I was jogging slower than I can actually walk and wanted to give up halfway through! However I finished it and other than some achiness I feel good. I will be taking it slow and listening to my body, aches are good pain is not!

Hi Charlene, My name is Aileen, I am also a newbie with 4 stone to lose.

I am 64 yrs of age with osteoporosis, it doesn’t slow me down..

I wish you all the very best with your weight loss and look forward to seeing your progress and any tips you might have.. my tip to you is to start eating from a side plate to control portions. Also look up Lesley Sansome WALK AT HOME videos feee on You Tube.. they are great fir those who are newly back to fitness( like me) . You can do them anytime if day at home.. so if it’s chucking it down outside you can still get your daily exercise fix.. good luck xx

Hi and welcome, Stannergate00 :)

My tip is that if you eat real foods, you'll find them naturally restricting, have a look at these fatismyfriend.co.uk/ and healthunlocked.com/api/redi...

I hope you'll follow the other links that I've given to Sofasitter and will also become an active member of our community.

Onwards and downwards! :)

Haha.. thank you.. I always eat natural foods but too much of them!! Only myself to blame ... I also eat organic where I can but it’s so frustrating that so few places offer a good range..

Do you eat plenty of natural fats too? They will keep you satiated and help you to limit your portions naturally.

Hi Charlene, I was in exactly your position at Christmas. I started c25k. It was really hard At the start, could hardly do a minute. I really couldn’t see how it was going to be possible! I took it slow, longer than three months. Mix with walking, eating healthy food. Now I can do 5k three time a week and wish it went to ten. Lost three stone only 1.5 go! The running does work but hard. I have more energy for cycling as well now. Good luck, don’t give up it gets better. Get expensive running shoes fitted at a proper sports shop, unbelievably they are worth it.

Well done you, you’ll have to change your username soon! I would say what works for me is to not over think about what it is actually like doing it until you’re actually doing it and just concentrate on leaving the house to get it done!! When the weight is falling off in months time the early stages are totally worth it.

Couch to 5k is awesome. The first run is likely to feel odd. Even if you only manage one of the minutes, treat it as a practice and do more next time. It's a process and it works. Oh, and keep it slow. 😄

Good morning Sofssitter and welcome to the most supportive forum, I'm a relative newcomer to these groups too, having just started Week 3 of NHS 12 Week. I have about 2.5st to lose and am calorie counting ( around 2000 a day).

I also do C25K and have my last run of WK5 tomorrow. ( I couldn't run a bath 5 weeks ago!!)

The groups I joined on here were Daily Diary and weigh in, fabulous support from everyone 😊
