Intermittent fasting

This is start of week three weight programme and the weigh in tomorrow. I'm not expecting much if any weight loss. You know when you just know that the weight loss is going to be negligible. In total over three weeks I have lost two pounds. I have cut out crisps, chocolate , ready made pies . I'm loving the porridge for lunch and although everything is healthy nothing is happening .

So this week I'm trying a different approach. The 16 hour fasting period planning to stop eating 8 pm and restart 12 pm.

Let's see if that works !I must be still consuming to much although it feels like it's little, either that or I'm eating the wrong food types !

Well let's give this a go this week ...dieting is a bit hit and miss ! Has anyone found this approach useful the intermittent fasting ? Can I still drink tea without sugar during the fasting period ? Xx

We are in the same place. I finished one of Dr. Fuhrman's 3 week guided detox sessions two weeks ago. Over the 3 week period, I stuck to my regime very well and lost over ten pounds. During the three week period I found a couple of new strategies that served me very well: 1) Eat only three meals per day, with no snacks except water or decaffeinated herbal tea; 2) Treat your kitchen like a restaurant. Use it for meal prep. only and clean it up immediately afterward, at which time it is CLOSED until the next scheduled meal. Also, I had been successfully adhering to an intermittent fasting strategy similar to yours. I am eating Breakfast at 10:00, lunch at 14:00, and Supper at 17:00. I must say that after the three week detox was over, I was slightly less adherent, (eating bread), and my weight loss, like yours, stalled.

It is now a new Sunday morning and I am psychologically ready to recommit myself to my effort. I began this 'final' weightloss effort on January 7, 2016 at a time when I weighed 304 lbs., an all time high for me, and completely 'over the top' for someone who was 58 years' old. Now, four years later, I am 235 lbs, 62 years' old. I still have quite a way to go but I'm willing to share whatever practical tips might be helpful to anyone who might ask.

Hello and welcome to the forum, Dfatone :)

You'll find all the information you need about the forum, plus all our activities, clubs and challenges, in Pinned Posts by following this link healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... A good place to start is by joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans.

Do some exploring, then join in with chats and activities, ask questions, encourage others - it will all pay off for you :)

I don't know if it will help you, Indigorouge. I favour a more natural approach: eating whole foods, home cooked, cutting carbohydrates and being relaxed about healthy fats. Once you're established on that way of eating, you'll find your tru sense of appetite returns. You may find you're not hungry in the morning, or the evening, in which case you could skip one of those meals.

There's a great resource for you here on the forum with the Daily Diary. Why not use that for a week and you can get some useful feedback on what you're eating and see other members' choices?

PS, if you're feeling hungry on your current way of eating, you're likely to be eating too little or the wrong stuff. I'd look there first :)

I'm not hungry . So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. This last week I had.

Rice Krispies and Tea at 7 am

Porridge with strawberries at 1 pm

Jacket potato with salad In The evening at 8 pm or I had a plate of just vegetables , one day I had a slice of pizza and salad ,another day I had vegetable rice.

Guess it's my evening meal that is wrong. I think maybe I need to increase more protein but being Vegetarian I have to find protein sources.

I would recommend the Daily Diary, see what people are eating there; it may give you ideas. There are plenty of vegetarians.

I agree, if that's typical you need more protein, and more veg.

I've been doing intermittent fasting several different ways since December. I do either dirty fasting (allow broth, cream, butter, a pickle, sometimes a small amount of cheese to get me through) or clean fasting, just water and black tea or coffee.

I usually try not to snack during the eating window, just stick to planned meals, but I am not too strict on myself.

Try a few ways and see what works for you.

I’ve been doing 16:8 for a few years and I find it keeps my weight stable but I am not losing. Two weeks ago I’ve switched to 5:2, but still not eating breakfast on the other days because I’ve got so used to the 16:8 way of life! I’ve shifted 10lbs in two weeks so looks like just the boost I needed.

I've found 14:10 fasting useful: 10am Breakfast to 8pm Dinner. It diverts me from evening nibbles and 14 hours are almost as effective 16.

Two pounds in three weeks is best! What’s not to like?

If you feel good about what you eat, I would not worry to push it more.
