Hello and welcome! How much you need to eat to lose 2lbs a week depends on how many calories you need, and that depends on your height and weight and exercise levels. To lose a pound a week, we need a calorie deficit of 3500kcals or 500 a day. In practice, it’s quite difficult to get the calculations perfect to lose an exact amount each week. I have found it easier to get into a groove of healthy eating that I can sustain and let the weight come off when it comes off. I expect you are in a burning hurry though & others will advise on where to calculate how many calories you should eat etc. Best wishes.

Hello, I think a few of us here have yo-yo dieted over the years and gained all the weight back, I know I have. This time I've changed my eating habits completely with lchf and I've reached my lowest weight in 13 years, good luck on your journey! :-) x

Hi and welcome, Grubella :)

LCHF stands for Low Carb High (healthy) Fat. You can join this forum too, to find out more about it healthunlocked.com/lchf-diet and if you go to the profile of TheAwfulToad you'll find lots of explanatory posts.

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hello and welcome, yaebec92 :)

I don't have an answer to that except that weight loss is not a simple, straight line. If you take your calorie range (a range, not a single figure) from the NHS BMI calculator and aim for the middle of that range, chances are you will lose an average of 1lb a week, but there are no guarantees. If you eat below the bottom of that range, you may lose in the early weeks but you'll soon grind to a halt so it's best to lose weight by eating enough and eating well, if you want to keep it off.

There's a post here you might find interesting: When weight loss is a struggle healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You'll find everything you need in our Pinned Posts by following this link healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... I recommend joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice (why not today?) and using the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans.

Active participation can give a great boost to your own efforts so I hope we'll see you joining in forum activities :)

Hi, welcome to the forum, my weight has yo-yoed over the yrs. I have put 60 lbs back on over the past 15 months, I joined the forum desperate to loose the weight and stop binge eating. Read about LCHF and IF, decided to give it a go as not tried this before. So far no binges for 12 days, enjoying eating different foods, and not calorie counting, so would recommend. Good luck, let me know how you get on, happy to chat.

2 pounds a week is 0.91kg a week.

1 g fat is 9 kcal.

910 g fat is 8,190 kcal.

Thus, the calorie deficit should be 8,190 kcal per week, I.e. 1,170 kcal per day.

Your recommended 2,150 - this 1,170= 980 kcal a day.

As that is extremely low, I recommend that you aim for much less weight loss, max. Up to a pound a week.
