A little disappointed I’ve a pound on. Yesterday I had porridge a banana glass of squash and a cuppa. I went out and cycled for an hour. I stopped and had a home baked slimming world oat and fruit muffin, banana And a drink of low sugar squash. Cycled an hour and half back. Had an apple two satsumas. I then had three rashes if bacon and two eggs. For tea pork and mushroom stroganoff with a small portion basmati rice, peas green beans and sweetcorn. For pud low sugar jelly with mixed fruits and berries and a cuppa no alcohol. This morning I’ve put a pound on. Can anyone suggest what I’m doing wrong?

Thanks more or less yes too many sugary carbs in fruit and veg I think. I’d like to try LCHF but doing it with my partner and that would be a step too far for her

LCHF is just meat, fish, eggs, dairy and vegetables. Isn't that what everyone eats? All you have to do is not eat the carbs that most people add to it :)

I love this post. Succinct.

What sort of way of eating are you trying to follow? Calorie counting, NHS 12 week plan etc?

I am Low carb, healthy fat and your daily menu is very high in sugar. 3 bananas, satsumas and sweetcorn are all in the high end of carby foods.

The diet doctor was my light bulb moment. There are lots of pictures of the 'these are better than those' type which really got my head round it.

I don't go ultra low, just cutting out the beige junk is a good start.

Top notch on the cycling!

That’s really useful I am trying for low calorie and reducing carbs as well I am trying to avoid calorie counting but have to thank you I will check it out

I don't count calories, it doesn't seem to fit terribly well with LCHF.

I just look at whats in the fridge and if its green (not mould!) it goes on the plate. The dearly beloved is not LCHF and he does the cooking, he just microwaves some brocilli or cauli for me instead of spuds or rice etc.

I eat loads of eggs and veg and i also like butter and cheese. All these things make you feel nice and full.

I used to eat LOADS of fruit (6-8) portions a day as snacks etc. The weight would not shift until I cut right back on it, the weight started to come off, then I went LCHF.

It takes some getting your head round at the beginning.

Moreless posted it.

I eat few few raspberries with some plain stewed rhubarb as a pudding to hold my chia seeds (my meds cause constipation) with a dollop of cream.

I might have half an apple as well if I'm feeling piggy.

I eat loads of things like spinach and courgettes and avocardo instead.

I also only have 2 meals a day, but I do have a very large breakfast.

Since i dropped the carbs and fruit I don't get the blood sugar swings I've had most of my life - I have never been checked for diabetes.

I also don't get the IBS symptoms I used to have.

If it were me that would be far too much fruit. I keep it to one or two pieces daily maximum. (to cut down natural sugars). There are too many carbs there for me, I'd cut about half of those out (I've stopped eating rice totally, swapping for 'cauliflower rice'). Also worth looking at cutting back on the processed meat: bacon. I have that as an occasional treat (2 rashers max). Worth checking the 'low sugar' items as they may well have additives. Eggs are good. More veggies and unprocessed meats might be a good alternative.

Thanks Sofa yes too many sugary fruits I assumed all fruits are healthy apparently sweetcorn is high too

I love sweetcorn. If it doesn't have added sugar, I have to say that doesn't trouble me as much as excess fruit. All in moderation.

in reply to PedallingMinstrel

Sweetcorn is high in sugar but if the corns are whole (not pulverised for soup), we don’t digest them. They pass straight through. Bowel surgeons get patients to eat them before surgery so they can check everything has emptied out of the large intestine.

When you eat carbs (and to a lesser extent protein) your pancreas releases insulin.

"Yesterday I had porridge a banana glass of squash and a cuppa. I went out and cycled for an hour. I stopped and had a home baked slimming world oat and fruit muffin, banana And a drink of low sugar squash. Cycled an hour and half back. Had an apple two satsumas. I've highlighted the carby, starchy and sugary things you ate. Your body would have been bathing in insulin all day. It's (amongst other things) a fat storage hormone. If you doubt that, have a look what happens if a type 1 diabetic uses the same injection sites every time: ehealthwall.com/wp-content/...

What do you think of the Diet Doctor website and the other info moreless shared? Will you be trying anything new in the coming week?

Hi JeffDavies123 and to endorse what others have said in their recommendation of the DietDoctor site, on there they have illustrated charts of the sugar content of various foodstuffs. I have altered my fruit intake to just a couple of strawberries or raspberries a day, with the occasional apple during the week. I found it a real eye opener to see how high in sugar certain foods are, foods that I had previously considered as part of a healthy diet e.g. I used to eat a load of grapes most days and also cashews as a snack. I've switched the cashews to pecans and macadamia nuts instead.

All the best 🌞
