We are all different Fizz so you have decide which way is best for you. Personally I like calorie counting as it makes me aware of portion size, and I can include all my favourite foods, but I do try to eat healthily as well. However, it does need to be the correct amount of calories, please check your own personal calorie target using the NHS BMI checker. It will suggest a range, often higher than you think. We always advise starting towards the top of the range, being hungry is the biggest cause of weight loss failure.

My suggestion is to do some research, and think about how your daily life works.

There’s evidence that low carbohydrate plans are very effective, especially if you have a sweet tooth. Have a look at this post healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

DietDoctor website or the LCHF forum here healthunlocked.com/lchf-diet

One thing to bear in mind, any successful eating plan has to be sustainable and one you can follow permanently so it needs some careful thought. For further help please have a look at the Daily Diary, our regular meal planning Post

My experience is that diets don’t work long term. Getting into a groove of healthy eating for life works for me. I find low carb a very easy healthy eating plan to stick to as I am not hungry on it, the food is nice & as well as slimming down, I feel very ‘well’ on it.

My recent experience, FWIW.

SW: 4 of my neighbours went on this, they all lost heaps of weight and looked great. I shared their food and enjoyed it. It seemed a brilliant diet. (Un)fortunately, I rebelled against the rules, so ended up not joining. All my neighbours have put the weight back on, plus some. They are very different people, and good friends but they don't live in each other's pockets. That told me that SW is good for weight loss, but not for keeping it off.

Eatwell guide (ie what the NHS/NICE tells us to eat): kept my weight in reasonable check until my late 40s, but since then I piled on the kilos. Also my blood glucose started heading upwards towards pre diabetes.

Food diary/watching what I eat: that actually worked

for a few kilograms. I guess accountability - even to myself - has some affect.

Counting calories: I did this for the first and only time last year, and gave up after 3 weeks. It was a full time job meticulously counting every calorie, I was hungry a lot of the time and I didn't lose any weight. If that was the effort it takes me to maintain, I decided I couldn't keep it up for the rest of my life.

Low carb/high fat and intermittent fasting: that just clicked for me. I lost 7kg in the first month and another 8kg in the next 4 months. It feels like something I could do for the rest of my life, and I am really enjoying it.

I hope that's useful to you. Yeah, as IndigoBlue61 says, you have to find your path. But don't give up, you will find it.

Lovely reply 👍

Hey Fizz, I thoroughly recommend Dr Xand van Tullekan's book: How to Lose Weight Well. You can get a copy off Ebay for around a fiver. For me it's proved a genuine life changer!

Good luck finding what works for you; you've got this!

Please don't feel angry at yourself Fizz

Most people are in the same boat at the moment. You haven't caused the pandemic that meant Slimming world had to close!

Can you get out walking?

Hope you feel better soon x

Fizz I am back on the site because of letting things slip well before and during lockdown. If you have lost the weight before you can do it again. Good luck
