weight loss stalled.

Hi guys, I'm back again after procrastinating for three years. So far I've managed to lose 13lb, which practically fell off of me, but now my weight is bouncing around 12st 1- 12st 4. I'm trying to eat healthily, I've cut out a few food groups, such as potatoes, bread and I'm allergic to fish. This worked for me before and my weight would stall at 11st 7. So i'm quite irritated as I was hopeful to once again get to there before this happened! I do a 15 min HIIT low impact work out video every evening 5/6 times a week. But I am struggling to stop snacking, doesn't help that I don't even buy the snacks for me, I buy them for my partner and child. Who are both super picky eaters, as they both have Autism and won't eat food with particular textures as it overwhelms them. So changing their foods to help me isn't an option, trust me, I've tried.

Any tips to help my weight loss journey, I would be super grateful!!!!!!

Hello and welcome back

If you haven’t already then please have another read the Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... as a few things have changed recently

As you may remember, this is a very busy forum with lots going on, and nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start, especially with regards to food choices and weight loss stalling.

Best wishes in your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

Hey there.

The struggle to not snack is very real when it comes to being stuck at home these days!

I'm not saying this definitely applies everyone, but cutting out carbs like potatoes and bread can be detrimental. Maybe try and have more filling meals that include these food groups; brown bread and potatoes with skins are very healthy in moderation.

Perhaps reintroducing these will help keep the hunger at bay, helping you snack less?

Alternatively maybe buy some snacks for yourself? Popcorn and jerkies (though watch the sugar content) can be great alternatives to classic crisps and other snacks.

At the same time I found weighing and calorie counting the snacks really shows how the calories can add up. When you're aware of what you're eating, you tend to eat a little less.

Hopefully some of this is helpful :)

Hi StillConcerned,

When you say how we are built, we are omnivores. We can adapt to our environment and we are also conscious beings so can also make choices about what we eat.

I am vegetarian and wheat and dairy free, I am losing weight, I don't eat fat like you mention. I am happy with how I live. I eat a variety of foods to fuel my system.

No matter what you eat, insulin production is never stable, it goes up and down. Exercise does this as well as eating.

Hi StillConcerned,

It's possible to be a healthy/unhealthy any eater, that's why we're all here 😃 my accumulation of visceral fat is due to being inactive. If I were more active I would not have had the build up and drinking too much alcohol, which escalates visceral fat build up, didn't help. Before the car crash in 2012, I was very active walking 30 miles a week, pilates, swimming and yoga and even the gym. My diet was good I thought, the odd treat etc but it is so so easy for the pounds to pile up isn't it when we aren't watching them and are eating foods that promote fat stores.

I haven't eaten meat for 35 years. I haven't had wheat and dairy for approx 23. I didn't like meat as a child and came from a family that overcooked vegetables so I took over cooking in my teens. Eating tasty nutritious food is what I fully appreciate and I am constantly looking at ways to increase that. I have a friend who is a nutritionist, also vegetarian and wheat and dairy free who is helpful with that and makes the most amazing cheesecake with cashewnut and date base, heaven- in moderation 🙂

Hi StillConcerned,

I know you were talking in general and yes thin, isn't necessarily healthy-People still get cancer, stroke, even diabetes type2 I was told by the nurse. Runners and athletes put their body through tremendous stress and there is more of a demand on the energy system. Did you see that he did a study on athletes that showed their drinking more water and sports drinks led to sodium build up as the kidneys struggled to cope? I found that interesting but not his comment about autism being caused by immunization as my daughter is autistic but wasn't immunized due to my other daughter having a reaction to her third mmr.

I like this article as a simplistic visual guide.
