As anyone got any nice simple recipes that I can cook for my kids to eat with me please?

Hi and welcome, Sweetlips32 :)

If you stick to fresh produce, meat, fish full fat dairy, eggs, vegetables, healthy fats (nothing labelled low fat), a small amount of fruit and low GI carbs, then your meals will be suitable for all the family. Recipes can be found in the Topics section and meal ideas can be found on our Daily Diary.

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Try the Hairy Dieters cook books. They do all the family favourite recipes, all calorie counted for you. I think it’s important that you all eat the same, so you are doing the right thing here. It sets a good example to the children about eating habits. Just don’t eat their leftovers!

Hi Trimmerteacher,

I don't necessarily agree about all having to eat the same foods. I have 3 kids in the house and we don't all eat the same at mealtimes. Last night 2 had macaroni cheese, roast veg and herby potatoes (wheat and dairy free) one had spicy pasta with soya chunks and wild mushrooms and I had leftover sweet potato and lentil cottage pie and a mix of veg. Pudding was HM flapjack, icecream and strawberries (wheat and dairy free) for a different 2, choc rice crispy bun for the other and and I had plain soya yogurt , strawberries and a sugar free choc shot. Due to the different tastes and intakes of each individual, I would prefer food to be eaten and not wasted right now -empty plates and happy faces is my aim. Other dishes that are simple and we all eat are chickpea and tofu veg stew (new to the family since lockdown due to cwrtain food availability) and rice albeit 2 different rices. It's low in fat, no sugar, good for protien and 5 a day veg.

Just wanted to say, the poster -Sweetlips asked for simple recipes, not me 🙂 I was remarking on the " I think it's important that you all eat the same" in your post

Hi Sweetlips,

What kinds of foods do the kids like? As you are calorie counting, you can eat the same but tweek the amounts you are having? Up fruit and veg as these tend to be lower in calories and look for alternatives at the supermarket that help your weightloss. HM popcorn is a fun thing to make with the kids and they can flavour it as they wish whereas you can stick to a lower calorie version. On CC you can still have your cake and eat it, just a smaller slice ☺

I have 2 children that eat anything and I very fussy little girl who won't eat much X

Maybe the fussy one should do the cooking? She'd be more inspired to eat it!! A longer term project - my kids really like cooking and eating the food that we grow at home or forage - like beans, potatoes, salad leaves, nettle tops, etc
