I have a job where i sit a lot either in the office at meetings or driving. This is making me unwell and i have put on weight.

I have struggled with my weight for most of my life fluctuating but not able to lose it easily.

Any thoughts welcomed.

Thanks Tinkx :)

Hello and welcome, Tinkx :)

The good news is that what we eat is far more significant in losing weight than is activity - though activity has many benefits in itself.

You mention you've struggled with your weight for a long time so this is something that may have been written for you healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and this offers a way forward phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

You'll find everything you need to get the best out of the forum in our Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... I hope you'll join in all the activities you'll find there, especially a weekly weigh in and the Daily Diary.

I hope you'll be an active participant, coming here regularly, reading and replying to posts and encouraging others :)

If you click on the third link above, for Pinned Posts, today's is the fifth Post on the list.

If you're using the app, get rid of it as it doesn't give access to all parts of the forum. Use the website, whatever device you're using, and you should be OK :)

Welcome Tinkx :0

As BridgeGirl has already mentioned, losing weight will almost all come from managing what you eat and drink. If you can manage some exercise then great as it will help with the overall health of your body and in the current circumstances, most importantly, your mind.

Do take the time to read through all of the information that BG has linked for you. The more you can understand then the better decisions you can make to help yourself.

Activity here is key and the weekly weigh-in and the Daily Diaries will, at the very least, help you stay focused, though they have much more to offer than that.

This is a super friendly forum with the most helpful people you'll ever see in one point so do make the most of it.

Good luck!

Hey there! I’m exactly the same, I rarely love at work apart from walking from meeting or meeting lol

My diet was awful- it’s not perfect now but it’s also not awful lol so I’m making steady progress.

I’m finding the more I loose weight wise the more I want to move and do more outside of work. I’m also finding everyone here amazing support ... i hope you get involved here and invest in taking time to post and join in - it really does help keep me on track :)

From experience, take small steps to break the cycle. A massive plan to lose weight and get fitter is doomed to fail. Change the bad parts of your lifestyle gradually. Give up sweets when driving, stand up and walk around for 5 - 10 minutes every hour, start with gentle core exercises, give up something you know is bad. Start with one and then when you succeed, movecto next step. As Scarlet says the fitter you get, the more you want to move. The only thing I know from life is to keep your weight under control you have to manage food AND exercise.

Joining the forum counts as a first step. Good luck .

Plenty of support and advice there Tinkx.

Did any of it resonate?

Yes thank you has been hard for me as i am allergic to cows milk and vegetarian so have been on a journey to find things to replace calcium and protein and getting there.

sometimes i get fed up as i have arthritis and my body struggles to exercise as i am in agony if i do even a little which makes me so sad as it’s something i want to increase.

I am keen to do a weight Weekly but not sure how to find the link to do it on so if able to send me it would be fab thanks Tiggerr as i felt pretty low finding this group even tho only just joined has given me hope.

Thanks Tinkx :)

That must be so difficult for you. There are many people here with ailments, allergies and following different ways of eating and it appears that there's always a path.

Your arthritis sounds debilitating but the good news, is that you can still lose weight with little or no exercise. Apart from some dog walking, I've sat on my bum since the New Year :( but with managing my food, I've managed to lose over 11kgs. If you can find some exercise that you like then it's great for the health of our body and mind but my suggestion would be, not to fret over it.

The links for the Daily Diary and the Weigh-in can be found by scrolling to the top of this page and clicking on 'Home' (the one next to 'Posts' and NOT the one next to 'My hub'). You will find them under 'Events', on the right hand side, as you scroll down.

In case that doesn't make sense, here they are...

Weigh-in: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Daily Diary: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I'm not saying this next bit because I'm biased (even though I am :) ) but if you use this forum regularly (imagine having your friend sat next to you throughout the day) you will achieve all your goals. Change won't necessarily happen quickly, as we unravel the wrong way we've done things and build up new ways, but by coming here regularly, it does happen :)

Good luck!

Hi and welcome what we eat more important in weight loss than exercise that's just a bonus. Do you work in a high rise building? If so try taking stairs rather than lift even if only 1 floor and do rest in lift.

Thanks for the suggestion as i try to but with my arthritis it aggravates my knees but haven’t given up.
