Prednisolone...!

Hey all, i suffer from Chronic Autoimmune illness, which in order not to get worse requires me to take Prednisolone.

So, I’m on my journey of weight loss and as i said in my earlier posts, I’ve already lost 20kg, and it wasn’t easy, in fact it was hard.

When i was younger i was put on Prednisolone, and after a month on it, I gained so much weight on my face, stomach and so on. So now I refuse to take it, I refuse to ruin all the hard work I’ve done, but the pain is so severe that I might start taking it.

If anyone is familiar with Prednisolone, how to not gain weight while taking it?? Is there a way to stay fit and be healthy?

I can sympathise as I was on it for over 4 years and put on 3st. I know what you mean about the places where the weight lodges. The answer is to cut the carbs. It definitely works even on prednisolone. I am now trying to get the weight off. Some people haven't put on weight at all but have stayed off carbs. The LCHF plan is good but whatever way you cut the carbs a weight loss should happen. The difficult part is resisting the carbs.

Thank you so much for replying, i read that cutting off the salty and sour products also helps not to gain weight, don’t know how accurate it this. Anyway thank you for the tip, i wish you that you lose your weight successfully.

I have never heard of this, so I won't call it nonsense.

I think you would lose weight if you could do this. There are 7 tastes bitter, salty, sour, astringent, sweet, pungent (eg chili), and umami. You have to give up sugar, and sweeteners. No salty or sour. That would leave you with bitter, astringent, chili and umami. Could you do that? I couldn't.

A low carb diet with no salt or acid would be intolerable. It would also likely lead to seizures, because your electrolytes would get dangerously low.

I have to try, i gain weight pretty quickly so being on a medication that makes you eat, will make me double in size, so i must not eat these things otherwise I’ll gain more than i lost within 3 years.

Where did you read about salty and sour? What did it say?

One of the most effective weight loss techniques is fasting, and in the stricter forms, salty (as in salt) and sour (a squeeze of lemon in the water) are the only tastes you are allowed. I'd be surprised if a reliable source says not to have them.

But I know nothing about long term steroids, so my ignorance may be showing.

I don't know about salty and sour but cutting out potatoes, rice, bread, crisps, cakes, biscuits, sweets, sugar etc is the answer. Full fat is fine, cheese within reason, milk, cream. Low fat yoghurts etc have sugar so not advised. A lot of low fat has added sugar. Thank you. I need to be more focused on my weight loss. I hope the above will help you lose weight.
