Fighting the fatigue when fighting the need to self soothe with food

Hi I wonder if it’s just I who reaches a low because of feeling so bruised by the constant daily battles that when it comes night time the kids are asleep and the emptiness left by the daily monotonous chores can only by numbed by a overfilled stomach and only then stillness is achieved.

No it's not only you. I felt like that for years and carb loaded snacks were my reward for getting through the day. Problem is, it's a vicious circle and one that's very very hard to break free from. I felt tired from all the crap that I was giving myself as rewards and because I felt so tired, I'd eat more crap to make me feel better. Only you can break the cycle and you have taken the first step by coming here and asking for support. Which you will get here 😊. Have a look on the Internet at low carb, high fat eating as you can fill up with healthy fats while your carb cravings subside and maybe start a gentle walking programme to get you up and out, there are lots of apps out there. Oh and increase your water intake, again lots of apps for that. The combination of those will give you more energy and make you less inclined to snack. Good luck, you can do this! 😁

Thank you for replying. It is the bigger I get the worst I feel the more I eat mindlessly it’s really annoying that I can’t control my mind when I know I should be able to say no to unacceptable amounts of food

And if we knew the answer to that we wouldn't all be here! I felt so miserable about my weight and the fact that I knew what to do, I just couldn't do it! Indigo is right, the more you can interact with people on this forum, the better it will be for you. I don't know your personal circumstances but try and spend some time hanging out here daily and just join in, you'll soon get to know people.

Sounds as if stress and perhaps low mood is leading to these feelings Cacyda. Why don’t you try coming onto the forum regularly, Daily if possible, and joining in with all our activities? If you need a refresh then have another look at Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

We are open 24/7 and there’s usually some one around for a chat 😊

Hello Cacyda

I do sympathize, been in a similar mindset myself at different points in my life, and when you have kids and are trying to keep a lot of plates spinning at once so to speak, the last priority is yourself. Its a very good thing that you have asked this question because the knowledgable and wise folk who have answered your post so far have given us all excellent advice and its so reassuring that there are answers.

The hardest bit in my experience is mindset. Once you are determined to sort this weight thing out and you get started you will feel so much better, even by saying it out loud. I have only been here a week and feel better already regardless of what the scales might say I feel supported and its a place to come for ideas. Theres always someone with a solution or a great idea or information. So good luck. This is a time to help yourself so in the future you can be the help to your family that you already are, but in a better frame of mind and body. Take care.

That it I some days lose the proponent that keeps me from sinking into the overeating mode and I feel so lost like I am not there, following this it takes more strength to get back the and I fear that it will all become all about stopping eating until I die.

Wow, that is so interesting! My children were horrified at how much sugar is in apple juice. (been telling them for years and refuse to buy fruit juices!)

I'm with you Cacyda, don't beat yourself,I find this makes no difference, myself, and I began to weigh what I had over eaten(binge),and often it weighed 6to12 ounces, knowing the weight helped me take some sort of control, and as stated like all cravings it's a viscous circle, with no excuses, back to square 1.evening s and when I'm tired, upset, worse times.ive started 16:8which means I start my break at 11am,main at 7pm,drink lots esp tea,I'm day 16 on restricted daily carb 30g,100gbutter,cheese,cream and 90g protein, pleased with results so far,all side effects positive, one of which I'm calmer, early days have 3stone to lose.Others on here like us,have been through or are fighting this vicious circle.:)

I think there are times in the day when we have lows and feel the need to reward ourselves for simply having survived. Good luck.

Hello Stillconcerned,

I have just read the link to the NICE website and have been completely shocked by the sugar content of everyday foods. Its completely firmed up my resolve to cut out certain foods from my usual diet that I had always believed to be "healthy". Its a complete eye-opener and the science proves the point. Thankyou so much for posting the information, I am a person who needs proof and that article has certainly given me that!

I understand a little of how you feel; I have MS, and fatigue and depression are two big symptoms of that. Part of my mind tells me that caffeine and chocolate and some cake would make me feel better, and they would but only in the short term, and the long term effects of gaining weight and screwing up my system with excess caffeine would increase my fatigue and make me less able to cope. I think strategies are called for, like making a list of things not involving food that would help you feel better, and trying to make space for them. Would you be able to get out for some fresh air and exercise while the kids are in school, or do you have a friend in a similar situation with whom you could form a mini support group to ring each other when the munchies strike? Could you take up something stress-busting like knitting, which is creative (always a feel-good thing) but you can't eat and do it at the same time? You know the things that would help you, and you have it within yourself to carve out the you-space to do them, it just needs some planning. Good luck!

Such good advice given already. Do you think it is worth having a chat with your GP? It may be helpful to consider taking an anti-depressant and/or having some counselling. Hope you are feeling OK x

Also, I've just come across a superb post by Bridgegirl (Administrator). I'll try to direct you to it but in the meantime I've copied something about how insulin plays a huge part in storing fat. Bridge girl's information includes 2 links. The second gets redirected. I followed it and it went to a superb article. Here is a bit from her post: You may find these interesting: ignore the title of the first if it doesn't apply to you as the content will
