Hi All

Although i am not new to dieting i am new to HealthUnlocked.

For many years i have been unhappy with my size and the way i look, i have tried all sorts of diets but get disheartened when i think it isn't working and give up, but i am more determined than ever to achieve the goals i have never been able to reach before, i'm hoping that with extra support from people that know what a struggle weight can be i wont fail this time.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated and i look forward to being inspired

Hello and welcome HP2020.

I can relate entirely to your comment about not being new to dieting but being new here - that was most certainly me, but I found that with the amazing support, advice and knowledge of people here, I was able to be rid of the dieting for good, and I am now healthier and there is less of me than there has been in decades.

I see you have already found the Weigh In, and introduced yourself there, which is fabulous. My best advice is to have a read around what is happening, look at the Events and see if there is anything else you would like to join such as the Daily Diary where people help each other with menu planning. Take a look at the pinned posts - there is everything there - useful information, recipes, exercise challenges - find what you are interested in or want to know about and, most importantly, join in.

I found, and many others have too, that the more you join in, the better known you become amongst us, and the more support you will receive - and give too. Whether times are tough or easy, we are all here for each other, because we know and understand what it is like to want to change a lifestyle.

Looking forward to watching your progress. Wishing you all the very best.

Thank you MissisB for your advice, i will be sure to join in as much as possible. I think this time round i need to look at it as a lifestyle change more so than a diet, i really hope this time i can stick to it and share my success story with others. Thank you for the support.

If you are talking about a lifestyle change rather than "going on another diet" you are definitely looking at this with the right attitude. I am not going to pretend it is always easy, but there are plenty of people here who will understand just how difficult it can be and will gladly share their tips with you.

Hi, HP2020 , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Hello there. I'm no expert but I certainly have similar experiences! I have tried one diet too many and I believe that this is where the problem begins. Fad diets aren't going to become a way of life. That's unreasonable to expect. On these diets I have lost weight only to put it back on again. This time around I am looking to lose weight more sensibly and hopefully keep it off for life. My plan is to eat healthy, exercise more and keep treats as treats. Having this forum gives me encouragement because it's difficult to find like minded people in my social circle who understand how difficult this, journey actually is.

Wishing you the best of luck as you go again!

Hi, I totally agree with you 100% and like you this time round i am looking at it as a lifestyle change rather than another diet, i know my journey will be difficult because of the weight loss i want to achieve, i know it isn't going to happen over night and in the past i have found it can be a very lonely journey to, i have already started putting things in to place to help me, i have signed up to my local gym i set myself weekly and monthly goals but when i found HealthUnlocked and started reading other peoples stories its inspired me to want to do it even more i cant wait to share my progress with you all and be there for you along your journey.

Thank you for the support and all the best for your journey....

I am not the best to give advice because I only want to lose a stone and it is hard when you are on the last lap. However, when I had more to lose some years ago, I broke it down into realistic goals. For instance, I was 12st 6lbs so I aimed for a 7lbs loss. I allowed myself 6 weeks to lose it. I did attend Weight Watchers until I reached my final goal of 10st 7lbs. Years later I have gained a stone and it is hard shifting it. That's why I am on this site. 🙂

I haven't set myself any goals in terms of how much to lose by when, do you think this is something i should think about doing?

Definitely. Without goals, suddenly the year is over and nothing has been achieved. It can be done lots of different ways. Aim for a 7lbs weight loss in a month by eating healthier and getting active.

You can aim for an event like a wedding. How long have you got until the event. 6 months? How much have you got to lose? What is your long term goal? What is your medium term goal? What is your short term goal? I used to use this for weight loss in the past and in work situations.

I am currently unwell but I will get on track soon, hopefully. Good luck on your journey 👍
