Hello, newbie (and night eater!) here

Hi! I'm trying to lose some weight / cut down my waist size. I just weighed myself for the first time in, ooh, 20 years and got a bit of a shock.

I think I eat quite healthily but I probably eat too much. One bad habit I want to break is waking up hungry in the night and eating a bowl of cereal!

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum CocteauxFan

Cereal isn’t the best snack at anytime of day let alone middle of the night!! Maybe have a look at what you’re eating through the day, it’s a mistake to reduce fat too much as it’s an essential nutrient and very good for keeping us full 😊

If you haven’t already then please read the Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around.

This is a peer to peer support group, and nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start.

Best wishes in your weight loss journey

Indigo 😊

Thanks very much IndigoBlue, I will follow up all your suggestions!

I definitely need to make sure I am going to be full enough that I am not waking up hungry. Is there advice on what to eat last meal of the day?

Thanks so much,

You’re very welcome

The Daily Diary is the best place to go, it’s where we plan our meals for the following day. Follow the instructions in the Welcome Newbie Post

The overnight fast is very important for our health, so my instinct is to advise you to power through and not eat, but sleep is even more important, so if the hunger is keeping you awake, then you can't ignore it.

But try other things. Eg a boiled egg or a slice of cheese. They won't raise your blood sugar or insulin much, and will stay in your stomach longer. Also maybe a cup of tea? That's a double edged sword, as tea has caffeine (there is decaf tea). Add some full fat milk if you decide to try this.

And post your evening meal plan in the daily as Indigo suggests and request critiques explicitly explaining the night hunger.

Hi, CocteauxFan , welcome.

Try to set a time after which you do not eat - eat plenty of fat, as it satiates, and make you less likely to want to eat at night.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
