First time posting... Feeling a little scared and low. I have 4 stone to lose. I have done it before can I do it again, and will I keep it off this time?

I'm 51, mother of two, married to a Cockney and I work with SEN Autistic kids. I'm grateful for every day and love my life xx Just wish I didn't love chocolate so much xx

Hi Purpletink , there are others on here who have lost 4 stone and more and some who have lost and gained and lost again so people here understand how it feels to be scared and low about their weight. The Forum is usually a bit quiet after 9 so you have plenty of time to explore and see what the chats are like.

Many people join the Daily Diary pages which come up each day and people talk about what they plan to eat and there is also a Weigh In page every day when people talk about how they are doing with losing weight. There are also places just to chat about anything we want.

You gave taken a big important step coming in here, keep coming, try and join in on a Daily Diary or a Weigh In ? I'll add some links for you later to help out as you get used to the site. No one is here to judge anyone else , we share our experiences and support each other. I hope you"ll soon feel at home here and find it helpful. Just ask if you get stuck or have questions.

It's a pleasure Purpletink, the site can seem a bit confusing at first but just explore and soon you'll have it sussed. You can certainly move forward with making more and more healthy food choices which will help you lose weight. As you look around the site you'll see badges or grey markers next to people's names- that shows their weight loss.

Hang in there: you can get a lot from here for you and your family. Happy New Year! 🤗

Welcome Purpletink! I wish you well on your weight loss journey. I have another 3sts 7lbs to lose and for me I want to do it for the sake of my health and to be fitter. When the going gets tough, I find it helps to focus on the reasons why I want to lose the weight. Best wishes for the coming week.

Hello Purpletink & welcome to the forum. Friday is my weigh-in day and over the 9 months I’ve been on this forum I’ve exchanged some incredible support from fellow ‘losers’. I like the anonymous accountability of it all, too. I can dip in & out when I like.

There’s links to so much useful info, too.

My tips for today: keep a food & exercise diary. Counting calories doesn’t work for me. Weigh yourself only once a week, if that. Use a tape measure & log that info instead.

All the best! 🙋🏽‍♀️

Hi, Purpletink , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Hi Purpletink, I know that feeling - been there, done that and not long after had to buy an even bigger T-shirt! Scared to try again in case I failed, or worse still regained more than I’d lost. But I HAD to lose weight in order to be acccepted onto a waiting list for a hernia op. Now nearly 4 stones lighter, and no longer need the op because of it. This time feels different - I’m an enthusiastic convert to lower carb/ higher fat (LCHF) which took a while to get my head around. Benefits are: enjoying my food, not feeling hungry between meals, no longer craving sugar (chocolate!) and significant weight loss. Don’t be scared to try again 😊

There’s lots of help here on LCHF forum. I’ve also been reading a blog by a Warrington GP on website fatismyfriend.com

Hi Tink - the question is, 'Why did you not keep it off before?' That's the question I haven't successfully answered over the last decades! And I am still trying to work out the answer. I have managed to lose 5lbs since just before Christmas so I'm pleased with that.

How did you lose so much weight before and what do you plan to do this time?
