Fat, fifty something with GSOH WLTM 11.5st!

Hi all.

I’m currently looking to lose about 4st which is still wayyyyy above my supposedly ideal weight! This eating regime info is a minefield! LCHF, IF, WW, SW, LL, Keto... & not forgetting yoyo! Menopause, broken relationships, lack of routines & investing emotionally in all things bad have been my downfall.

Having been sitting in the wings and reading many posts over the last few weeks has made me realise a) I seriously need to do something about my health b) it may well be a very slow process but it’s not impossible c) I’m not alone and support is out there & d) unless I kick my own butt things will never change.

I think, for the time being, I’m just going to try to inform myself as best as I can, eat whole foods, such as berries instead of jelly babies and dark chocolate digestives, and take some exercise over the next month or so and see where I’m at in about 6 weeks time. Then I’ll re-evaluate

C25k isn’t realistic for me at the moment, I don’t think my knees can take it! But having done some reading I’m going to face my midlife crisis with a mini trampoline class! That should be fun! I’m planning on joining a health centre and making use of the pool too - not just priding myself on owning a membership card and flashing it each time my purse opens, but actually using it for the intended purpose!

That’s it - I’ve done it - I’ve made a public declaration and I know you will all come looking for me if I don’t do at least some of it!

Happy Healthy Sunday and thank you for your inspiration x

Hello and welcome, FatBird53 😊

Your second paragraph is spot on and choosing exercise you'll enjoy is perfect! I've just renewed my leisure centre pass for swimming: I worked out a couple of years ago that it would have paid for itself by Easter if I used it once a week and I did - but not last year: need to get back into the routine.

A good way of getting into the forum is by joining a weekly weigh-in on the day of your choice, and sharing your meal plans on the Daily Diary. They, and lots more besides, are in Pinned Posts and this is where you’ll find them healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

This is an interesting piece I found recently that could add to your information gathering psychologytoday.com/us/blog... My recommendation would be to eat real food, home cooked, avoiding processed foods - and that includes anything labelled low fat or light or diet as it's all heavily processed.

The forum is set up for sharing information and support so, wherever you go, please chat, ask questions and encourage others: that way, we share the support around. You’ll meet some wonderful people along the way who will be happy to share their successes and their struggles😊

Thank you for your response BridgeGirl.

I look forward to reading the links.

I’ve just taken a leap of faith - in what or who I’m not sure - and weighed in with the Sunday crew.

I’m hoping to have some success, but am also anticipating a few struggles, for which I’m sure I’ll get support from these lovely forums.

Good for you, that's my team (newly rejoined in the hope they'll help me back on track) - they're brilliant! We ask everyone to reply to at least three others so I hope you'll be able to do that today. You could seek out the other newbies - there are a few of them - or see what the 'veterans' are up to.

Have a good week, we'll see you again on Sunday but I hope you're going through those Pinned Posts and deciding what else you'll get involved with. Or just drop in and join in whatever chat is going on

Hello FatBird53 (totally uncomfortable typing your username, but I love your direct no-nonsense approach and it's made me chuckle!).

I relate to much of your post. It's time for me to take my weight seriously before I start to experience related health issues.

All the best for this week. Slow and steady does it. I'll look out for your progress and success!

Hi, FatBird53 , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Hi FatBird53 and welcome to the best forum for weight loss support and encouragement 😊

I love your introduction, definitely a GSOH, and I'm sure that will help you on your journey 😊

At least you recognise your downfalls & have some idea of what to do about it.

I have been here almost 2 years, and am over 6 stone lighter than when I joined, and if I can do it, so can you.

Your first goals sound great, and mini trampolining has to be fun!

You might surprise yourself if you try c25k, but only you know how you feel about it. I never thought I would, but I am on week 2 - OK early days, but I am enjoying it & I think that is the trick - finding exercise that you enjoy, otherwise you're not going to stick with it 😊

Good luck with your first week, let us know how you're getting on 😊 💪

Very funny title FB, made me chuckle.

Lots of great info from BridgeGirl, though my suggestion would be to implement any changes slowly.

Good luck!
