O Love that wilt not let me go

Life has been so busy with me over the last few months, and my weight has been hovering around fourteen stone (196 pounds). Whilst this “label” does not concern me too much, I would still prefer it if it was nearer the 189 pound area.

I have told so many people off in the past about looking in the mirror and not being happy with their image or stepping on the scales and not being happy with the weight that jumps out at them. You are who you are, you are what you are, and life is too short. Enjoy what you have and live life to the fullest.

The flip side of the coin of course is we should all live a well-balanced life, eating the right things, the right proportions on our plates and each getting enough exercise. We can still love ourselves for who we are though.

I was never born to be an athlete, I am a major asthma sufferer, and I have lungs that get tired walking up a flight of stairs. My dietary patterns leave a lot to be desired too. I have never liked meat, fruit or vegetables; and many of my work colleagues express surprise and disgust. Still I am alive.

I have however moved to new offices with the company I work at and I now walk four miles each day and I continue to look forward to the day when I can shed those extra seven pounds. In the meantime I look forward to maintaining my healthy outlook on life.

My song for this week I have chosen is one of my own personal favourite hymns, reminding each of you to continue to love yourselves … O Love that wilt not let me go by George Matheson …

O Love that will not let me go,

I rest my weary soul in thee;

I give thee back the life I owe,

That in thine ocean depths its flow

May richer, fuller be.

O Light that foll’west all my way,

I yield my flick’ring torch to thee;

My heart restores its borrowed ray,

That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day

May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seekest me through pain,

I cannot close my heart to thee;

I trace the rainbow through the rain,

And feel the promise is not vain,

That morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head,

I dare not ask to fly from thee;

I lay in dust life’s glory dead,

And from the ground there blossoms red

Life that shall endless be.

Sadly that is one I always connect with funerals ... but otherwise yes it is a lovely hymn.

Such a beautiful hymn I would not keep it for just funerals.

That was a surprise, that brings back happy memories of church rallies, church band and bit teas!

Thank you for sharing your gentle philosophy.

There is so much I can relate to that you are saying. I am always not quite where I wish to be with my weight, seven pounds too heavy and then, when I have the chance to reach my goal , I slowly let go and move in the other direction so I am always a stone more than I should really be.

I also have asthma and that can create a fear of exercise for me. I would be interested to hear how you deal with that?

Have a lovely Sunday. We are going up to our allotment to share food and music around a bonfire.
