Pedometers

Does anyone here use a pedometer? I am looking for a recommendations please. I'm not interested in the ones you wear on your wrist that you can download onto an app. Just a simple one you can pop in your pocket, or a good app for the phone. I have tried two on my phone this week, but the steps were way out and it managed to add steps when I was driving home! Walking to work is not an option due to the unsociable hours and a round trip of 48 miles ☹️

Any recommendations welcome thanks people x

Welcome back, fedupoffeelingtired :)

I never had any luck with a pedometer, as the same thing happened to me. In the end I physically counted steps on my regular walks, just to get an idea of distance.

To be honest, as long as you're getting 150 minutes of brisk walking/cycling per week, plus 60 minutes of strength/resistance exercise, that's all you need to worry about. Do you still have your exercise bike?

Little and often is better than nothing at all, or all in one go. Weight loss will be more to do with eating correctly.

Yes I still have my exercise bike. I do a fair amount of walking and try and do some exercise routines. But am still struggling to loose weight. I've had what I eat checked by a dietitian and it is ok. She suggested I need to increase my exercise. I know I don't do 10,000 steps but am curious to know how close I am.

Theres one called pacer that ive used for a few years i think its pretty accurate but you just have to remember that most of them are not going to be perfect and it might be up or down a few steps but it does give you a good estimate and you can pause the app when driving just so it definitely doesnt count steps by mistake

Hi I use a watch called veryfit. It's not expensive and I find it very useful to try and make sure I'm aware of getting my daily steps in and making sure I get enough sleep! It also shows you how many calories you burn while you are on the move! They sell these on Amazon. Hope this helps x

I have a Tom Tom sport watch and I love it as it has about 500 songs built in and works without my phone so I get lots of stats from it as well as being able to listen to music without carrying a bulky phone

I have used an Omron Walking Style IV pedometer for many years. It is quite accurate. When my husband and I go for longer walks he takes a Garmin GPS and the distances recorded by the GPS are very similar to the pedometer's.

Mine is an omron, it is old but works well and it is quite simple to use. The last time I was trying to lose weight we were being weighed at the chemist, they gave us a pedometer.

I’ve got a Fitbit that I attach to my bra strap! But it does connect up to a website so maybe it’s not what you want. It changed my life though! I just can’t bear not to have done my 5 miles of steps and if I’ve had a more sedentary day I’ll dance around the kitchen til they’re done! The activity levels have really helped me to maintain a healthy weight.

I purchased a straightforward pedometer from Argos, choose km or imperial and it will record distance covered in a simple display, also step count. Very simple. Does the job - oh and not expensive . Hope that is useful
