Need some encouraging words

Hi, after spending the majority of my life switching between different slimming clubs with short term success. I've come across the NHS 12 week plan and im going to try changing my habits and lifestyle to accomodate calorie counting and I'm hoping this is the one for me. I've worked out my calorie intake to lose weight and I'm going to attempt to stay at the lower end of the calorie intake I'm just looking to hear some other people's success stories and how much weight you have lost and in what time please X

Hi and welcome, Arlap31 :)

Before committing to calorie counting, which is what the slimming clubs do, but disguise it as points and syns, have a look at these, because years of yoyo dieting could have left you with a degree of insulin resistance. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

I know we're not supposed to say this but calories isn't the way to go ... it's a unit of "energy" but different foods have very different effects on your body. You really should have a look at what carbohydrates you're eating - honest they are the main problem! :)

I am a big fan of the 12 week plan and calorie counting. The only way to lose weight is to use more calories than you take in, and I found it very educational to learn what different foods cost in terms of calories.

I don’t believe in cutting out food groups that I like to eat. To me, that’s not sustainable in the long run. I’m not saying that it doesn’t matter what foods one chooses to eat, but finding out what calories my body needs was a good place to start. After learning how to master my calories, I have worked on upping fibres, protein and healthy fats.

Oh, and I would suggest that you start at the higher end of your range. I am eating right in the middle of my range and I have consistently lost .5 kg/week over the last 9 weeks.

Hi and welcome

I enjoy calorie counting as I like to have a good variety of foods. I have cut down on my carbs tho as I found they made me bloat. I wouldn’t stress too much how long it takes to lose weight we are all different and some are more motivated then others.

I’m a yo-yoer dieter but I’m telling myself I’m lighter then I was last year still 😁

Good luck and hope you get to goal

Welcome to the forum Arlap

I started the 12 week plan at the end of April and have lost just over 2 stone. I started by calorie counting and logging all my food, but didn’t stop eating anything in particular so didn’t feel like I was restricting myself in anyway. Since participating in the forum, I have steadily reduced my carb intake (I now realise how carb-heavy my meals were) and although I am eating the same number of calories as I was I am losing weight more quickly and have now settled in to a steady 1-2 lb per week loss. My gut health has improved significantly, I am rarely hungry as long as I eat to the middle of my calorie range and don’t crave sweet stuff anywhere near as much as I did. This feels more sustainable than any “diet” I have been in before as I am eating proper nutritious food and don’t feel deprived.

It has taken a while to find what works for me and I’m sure it will continue to change with time.

Good luck
