Bad to worse

So, after signing up to this site and downloading all the relevant apps and printing the relevant trackers etc. I didn’t bother with it. I ignored it. Deleted apps and carried on eating what I wanted and not exercising. I’m now bigger than ever and so unhealthy and unhappy. Standing for any lengths of time my feet swell, I can’t walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath and I’m genuinely scared for my health.

I need to find my love of proper food again and not rely on convenience food. So I’m here and going to try my best.

Wish me luck!

Be kind to yourself Cazzatron! Set yourself small achievable goals each week. Some if us find all the fitness / diet apps a bit overwhelming - find one or two that suit you. Or try a month of sensible eating and gentle exercise - that in itself will show results without needing to use an app. Could your GP give you some support, e.g. with suggestions for suitable exercises? Keep us posted!

Good morning, Cazzatron, I'm going to wish you time - to explore your options and find one you'll be happy with for life - and commitment - to making good use of all that the forum has to offer. They will be better for you than luck :)

I do agree, you'll be far better off eating real food, home cooked, keeping bread, potatoes, rice and pasta to a minimum, trying different ingredients and recipes and coming to enjoy your food again.

The Welcome Newbies post will help you find your way around and I recommend joining a weekly weigh in and using the Daily Diary for meal planning. You'll soon find yourself among friends if you take the time to chat and to encourage others healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Please read our post about online privacy/security, especially as you have left your post unlocked healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Now, take your time exploring, read and chat to others, ask questions and make the most of the forum :)

Thanks guys. I’m going to keep posting on here and I’m following the nhs 12 week plan. The drs just refer to SlimmingWorld, yes it works (I lost 8 1/2st previously) but I found I was obsessed with getting big losses and losing ASAP which wasn’t healthy.

I would question that it "works". For me, for something to "work" we not only have to lose weight but to keep it off.

From my understanding, the SW plan involves a lot of carbohydrates. This explains what carbs do to our bodies over time healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and this suggests a way forward phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

Whatever you do, do something different. You've tried other plans and obviously worked really hard at them to lose that amount but they haven't kept you at a healthy weight so, as I said, take your time exploring your options :)

By the way, you don't need to do stand alone posts, just join in with existing posts and you'll find it very interactive :)

Thanks, I’m just getting to grips with the app.

Should have mentioned, the HU app doesn't give access to all parts of the forum so use the website healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... whatever device you have

Big quick losses are pretty much the worst way to go. Glad you're looking at slowing down and learning to treat your body now, in the same sensible way that you'd like to be when you reach your goal.

Well done for not giving up.

Many people who use this forum regularly, find that works best and everything else stems from that.

My suggestion would be to set your computer and/or mobile up, so that this forum always opens up when you login. After that, if you start off with two simple events (the weekly weigh-in and the Daily Diary), you are likely to start getting into a routine.

With all the support here and whilst keeping to those few simple steps, you will succeed.

Did you see Barcud 's post this morning? Posts like that are so inspirational healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

... and of course you can be support for others too :)

Good luck Cazzatron! :) :) :)

Welcome Cazzatron

Completely agree with what has been already said

Top tips for getting started that have worked for me

-plan your food. The daily diary is brilliant

-have a goal that is achievable in a month or two. My next one, which I set a few weeks ago, is to get my 2 stone badge by the end of the month. After that it will be the Christmas challenge.

This forum has been a game changer for me. I am quite certain I wouldn’t have got as far as I have without it and have maintained my determination to continue

All the best

I agree with everything already said but I'd like to add something that really helped me and that's weight loss/health podcasts particularly 'Half size me' and 'The food medic' which isn't weight loss specific but does discuss healthy eating/living. I just stick one on while I'm on a walk or batch cooking and it really helps me to stay on track

Thanks guys! Quick question, where do you all stand on artificial sweeteners?

lucigret profile image
lucigret in reply to Cazzatron

I personally never use them. What are you wanting to use them for. If it's in drinks, I would try and just give up.

How are you getting on, have you had time over the past 2 days to put a plan together?

Did you manage to read the links that BridgeGirl gave you?

Don't be afraid to ask questions if your stuck :)

Hi, I’ve made a start this morning. I’m going to try cut down on sweeteners and sugar free fizzy drinks (another addiction of mine). I’ve read loads and feel like I’m ready to make a change.

Good for you.

I recently bought myself a water bottle with a filter in the middle. I put in slices of lemon and lime and leave in the fridge for it all to infuse. It makes drinking water much more interesting and I really don't miss the fizzy drinks anymore. Once we start to cut these things out of our lives, it really doesn't take long for our tastes to adjust. I now find all fizzy drink unbearably sweet.

Have you joined a weigh in yet, if not maybe you could join today's. You will find it in Events, the information is in the newbie pack and there is even a visual aid to get you there. You will get to know a great group of supportive people. Another good place for advice and support is the Daily Diary.

Joining in here each day, chatting on other peoples threads will also offer you more support and by supporting others, you give yourself a more positive outlook too.

I look forward to seeing you around the forum :)
