Venaflaxine and weight

Hi I am new here and also new to forums in general, I have a habit of not talking well online or face to face😞. I have depression and anxiety have done since early teens I used to self harm aswell which makes things difficult now I'm 32 with 2 kids I would hate for them to see that 😔. I have decided to write a post due to my medication I am on now. I'm taking venaflaxine 150mg daily since last winter and i have put on an awful amount of weight which I'm terribly conscious about but whatever I do i can't seem to lose it. I've considered coming off the meds but the meds are working quite well and I'm scared to be in that place I was last year but I can't stand the weight!! If there is anybody that has had the same experience any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you xx

Hi and welcome, Leedsfc1986 :)

I think you've expressed yourself extremely well and wish I could offer more assistance, but we aren't qualified to offer medical advice. Maybe you could talk to your GP and see if there's an alternative medication that you could take, that wouldn't lead to weight gain.

For myself, reading this made a huge difference healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and this supports it phcuk.org/wp-content/upload... possibly an avenue you could explore?

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary.

To make navigating the forum easier, we've put all the information you'll need in a newbie pack and here's the link

Hi and welcome to the forum, sounds like the meds are doing their job and I wouldn't even contemplate coming off the meds without discussing it with your GP but worth asking if there is an alternative

You hsve expressed yourself really well and I hope I will see you around the forum 🙂

Have a look at the nhs BMI calculator as this will give you your personal calorie allowance

Choose a weigh in day and join and post your weight there- I am one of the Saturday weighers. You will get loads of support from others which ever day you choose

Also look at the daily diary as this is a great place to see what others are eating and pinching so food ideas

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey 🙂

Hi I too was on venafaxaline 225mg xl and quetiapine 300mg xl at mu highest dose. I put on 4 stone. My recommendation try and stick the medication out and when you feel you are getting better suggest to your GP, cpn or psychiatrist about lowering the dosage. Your mental health and well being are most important and for you to be well for your children. You will lose the weight again. Slimming world worked for me I lost 2.5 stone and then got pregnant again lol. You are doing amazing momma. Try and focus on you being well for you and the kiddies :)
