Support needed.

Yet another diet started. The difference? I really need to lose weight as I am heading for type 2 diabetes. I really need support from other members and am looking forward to reading about your journeys.

Hello and welcome, Sloth34 :) You've come to a good place for sharing ideas and support.

With Type 2 diabetes, it's not just about losing weight, it's about changing what you eat. I don't know how much information you've been given but I'll give you some things to read that can offer a way forward. Pre-diabetes can be reversed and we have members here who can tell you that from experience.

This is a busy forum and we've put everything you need to find your way around in a Welcome post. I've tagged you there so pop over and read it so you can get the best out of the forum. I recommend joining a weekly weigh in on the day of your choice, and using the Daily Diary to plan your meals.

If you come here often, read and join in chats, ask questions, encourage others - it will all pay off for you :)

Thanks for the welcome and information

You're welcome :)

Take your time reading and exploring and do come back with any questions. It may be that this will be a big change in the way you've been used to eating but many of us enjoy it, even without a diagnosis of diabetes.

Hi, Sloth34, Welcome.

What works (for weight loss and diabetes) for many of us is a combination of the Low-Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (See the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Eating All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF), See:

Hi Sloth34 and welcome to this weight loss forum where you will get lots of support and encouragement from members. Firstly could I just say we look at this as a new healthy lifestyle not a diet. Diets are often short term weight ones off you stop dieting the weight goes back on plus more often. This is a new way of living which to be successful has to be for life . I could so easily have been in your position, my blood pressure and cholesterol were way too high. With the support of my GP I have got my blood pressure down to a more normal level for my age (68) and I have halved my cholesterol. I was expecting him to tell me I was pre diabetic but nit this time thankfully. I worked through the NHS 12week plan and counted calories, weighed everything that I ate and wrote it down...in fact I still do all three things now. I also later on joined the Monday Mass Movers and have got to know some really supportive and lovely people. I know that my daughters mother in law has been referred to a pre diabetic clinic who with specialist help is working through something similar to the 12week plan is there something like that in your area.?

I wish you all the best on your weight loss journey and look forward to following your progress. Sue 🌷🌷🌷

Highly recommend doing the reading before going with the NHS plan! And sorry to add to it but here's the story of one of our members (moreless) which is well worth a look
