New - 2 stones to lose......

Hello there,

I've started week 1 of the NHS diet today.

I've planned breakfast, lunch and dinner options that fit in with our lifestyle then made a plan for this week - but not set in stone.

I am 45, currently coming back from a nervous breakdown and know my weight is not helping me - in any way.

I would like to lose 2 stones to be at my ideal weight of 9 stone 12. Can I do this before Christmas?

Any tips appreciated.

Just done a brisk 25 minute walk, even though my period is pretty grim - I suffer from endometriosis.

I really want to break this destructive cycle of comfort eating.

Hi and welcome, Shalom74 :)

Here are a couple of things for you to read, which may help helpguide.org/articles/diet... well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013... and healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Try not to think of this as a diet, which will finish when you've lost 2 stone, but as a change to a healthier lifestyle and one that is sustainable.

Weight loss is different for everyone. Instead of focusing on the end game and setting a target that you may not meet and that may be demotivating, concentrate on enjoying your journey and new way of eating and let weight loss be the happy side-effect.

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary.

All the information you need is in the Newbie Pack. If you look at the FAQ's, the weigh-in is explained in detail, including pictorial guides, if you need them :)

Welcome Shalom or shalom Shalom :)

It can take a bit of navigating but if you're still having trouble you can find the current Weigh-In by scrolling to the top of this page, clicking 'Home' (next to 'Posts') and you will find it under 'Events', on the right hand side, as you scroll down.

I had to look that up and now I've learnt something new.

Whilst trying not to sound overly fanatical, I can't emphasise how being active here makes a big difference to many here that do well.

I'm in the process of being a loser and wish you well on your journey to being a loser too :)

Hi Shalom, I agree with moreless. Find a sustainable approach that you can live with because this is probably for life. In that perspective, it doesn’t really matter if you have reached 2 stone in November or February as long as you are getting there, slowly and surely.

I’ve also followed the 12 week plan in 2016 and lost a bit more than 2 stone. I’ve gained the whole thing back in 2018/19 because I lost my ability to run and stopped thinking about what I ate. Now I’m back and this time I don’t expect to be able to ever stop focusing on what I eat.

Enjoy the process.

Hi. As moreless and the others say, don't stick to the figure of 2 stone just yet.

Have small targets. Half a stone for example.

I think 1 stone is okay by Christmas. 2 stones need a lot of effort and giving up. May back fire.

I personally suggest half a stone up to 1 by Christmas.
