Aches + pains when walking

Hi all, first time posting here.

I’m trying to lose weight but even just going for walks leaves me sore, aching and knackered. I end up not wanting to go out at all the next day. Is this normal, could it be down to simply being overweight or should I consult a Doctor?

I’ve gone from low end healthy range to high end overweight on the BMI calculator quite rapidly so not sure what to expect. Would love to hear people’s advice and experiences x

Hi and welcome, OopsIGotFat :)

Thank you, I found the insulin article very interesting. I had no idea it could block your body from accessing fat stores wow!

Welcome OopsIGotFat... love the name.

As moreless has already mentioned, it will be best to see a doctor or similar if you have any worries at all about your health. I saw a post earlier where someone asked a health question and got about half a dozen different replies. That's like throwing a dice in the air :)

As ever, moreless has provided so many good links with lots of information, that if you can take the time to read through and understand, will give you a good understanding of what you might be prepared to do next.

To get yourself started, joining in today's weekly weigh-in and tomorrow's Daily Diary would be a good way of you focusing and meeting some of the friendly, helpful people here.

Good luck and at some point you could change your name to OoEckIGotThin :)

Thank you, hopefully I can say the opposite soon. Ooeck is brilliant😂

Yes I did read one before posting about fluid retention and there were definitely a few different theory’s on there. Think I was just hoping for a reassuring ‘Yes that’s always the case when you’ve got extra weight to carry, it’ll stop as soon as you’ve got rid of it’.

I’ll have a more thorough look through everything tomorrow. I can’t believe how far you cycle that’s amazing! Thank you for such a friendly welcome :)

You're welcome.

Have you given any more thought to joining in with the weekly weigh-in? There's one every day so you can find a day that suits you.

Thank you, I think I’ll post Saturday instead as that’s food shopping/meal plan day. Will it be part of one big thread or is there a new thread posted daily?

That sounds like a good plan.

There's a new thread started each day so there'll be a specific Saturday one.

You can find each day's weigh-in by scrolling to the top of this page, clicking on 'Home' (next to 'Posts) and you will see them under 'Events' on the right hand side, as you scroll down.

I hope that makes sense.

Have you joined a weigh in day yet? Tomorrows is open now if you'd like to weigh in? Think of the loss you could be reporting next week! Here's the link, hope to see you there! :-) x

Hi oops! Loving the name!

I agree with the advice above to see a doctor if you're worried. If your weight gain was very rapid and unexpected that's perhaps something to look into as well as the aches and pains. I would hazard that the aches and pains you feel are connected to the extra strain on joints and circulation caused by rapid gain but it's always good to get advice. My main area for focus would be why you had such a big change in the first place.

And if I were you I'd also arm myself with information from Dr Google lol! There are lots of credible sources of info in books and on the net that will help you to understand your health and what might be happening so that you go to the doctor informed, educated and an active participant in the solution!

I'll also say..dont worry about struggling to make exercise work just now. I reckon if you're doing anything to increase activity a little you're still making an improvement and progress. We can be keen to speed the process of weight loss and better health up to the point of overdoing it. It's perfectly fine to take your time, ease into things, try things change them add something else. It's all part of the process in my opinion. If your body is struggling to keep up with what you're asking of it, it could be a sign that you need to take the intensity down a notch and work your way up slower. Just my ten cents, but I've become quite convinced that the gentler you are to yourself as you progress the better you'll do in the long run

Welcome to our little family! Looking forward to seeing you achieve and progress 👍👍👍

Thank you :) Yours is so positive!

Your comment has actually been a bit of a revelation for me. I’m always so busy focusing on meal plans and berating myself for messing up that I never stopped to think WHY I suddenly developed such bad eating habits. I’ve been suffering with PTSD and I think binge eating has become my way of ignoring it. I read your comment this morning and have been on google every spare moment since then, currently feeling very well armed indeed😂 CBT here I come!

With walking, i check my pedometer once I start getting sore and it’s usually around the 9k mark so I might take your advice and stop once I reach that point, maybe raise it back up once I’m a bit lighter. I weighed 109lbs in 2017 and I now weigh 171lbs so can imagine why my poor joints would be struggling.

Amazing how helpful a persons personal perspective can be to somebody else isn’t it? Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, it’s really got me thinking.
