I am obese, one day I went to a clinic (many years ago) I , I weighed myself. I was 12 stone. The chart next to the machine told me I was obese. I started to diet. Great I lost a few pounds. Then after about two years I put on what I lost and a little extra. , that was the start of my yo yo dieting, trying different diets every time with great success. Weight loss through exercise and diet, I felt fantastic. it is defined within a couple years again the weight came back on and I had a few more pounds added, fast forward 40 years I'm now 66 I am 19 and a half stone and have given up with diet's, realising that that every time you diet you starve a little your brain says "oh no that's not good! make sure that when we get a chance we add a little more to the fat bank for lean times" it's a vicious circle diets don't work, you will say it's a lifestyle, you have to change your eating habits I say no. What's really going on is I am ill I have an illness this illness is connected to my insulin resistance this will cause many to have symptoms of the insulin resistance, diabetes, high cholesterol, blood pressure etc. These are symptoms of your body not producing the right amount of insulin. I don't profess to be a doctor and the science behind my biological workings. The only way to cure obesity many people who suffer insulin resistance like I is with with a training program for your cognitive intake i.e. signals to the brain I would suggest the some of the studies that are being made now are on the right track with hormone treatments. We all understand that our gut bacteria produces those hormones, which in turn instruct our brain on how to store the food as fat or energy to run your body. How to produce the chemicals that theoretically should make us well. But when they they receives the wrong signals, vwalla we have have obesity. Help I'm scared very soon I will face 20 stone I'm sure of it. I need help! when will we have this help. Stop treating the symptoms and start treating the illness obesity.

Am I ranting or touching a nerve...

Hi, Nicholasproios , Welcome.

As BridgeGirl says, your story is, unfortunately, typical.

Weight loss and overcoming insulin resistance is not all about masochism and motivation - using the right diet and strategy helps a lot.

The high-carbohydrate diet advocated by the Standard American Diet, the WHO and the NHS are largely responsible for the epidemics of Obesity, Diabetes and most non-communicable diseases.

What works for many of us is a combination of Not Eating All Day aka "Intermittent Fasting" (IF), and the Low-Carbohydrate, High-Fat diet, See the forum here on Health Unlocked.
