So close but weight loss slowed or stopped?

My weight loss has been whizzing along with very consistent 2lb a week losses recently. Total loss now is 5 stone 5lbs with 9 libs left to get to 'healthy'.

But last Monday I was unwell and I went over my calories a bit with comfort food! Only by about 300-400? And I was off work three days but still did my exercises. However I had very very bad sleepless nights waking every couple of hours.

On Friday I weighed myself as usual and sort of loss 1lb. I say sort of as I have to kind of lean slightly to get the scale to settle on 10 stone 1 instead of 10 stone 2.

Now its Monday and if I was going to lose 2lbs this week I would usually have lost 1lb by now but I'm still fighting the scale to stick on 10.1 instead of 10.2....

I wonder did the crumble (extra calories) really have such an impact? Or the illness or sleepless nights? Or is it that time where the last leg of the journey gets difficult??

Firstly well done on that massive weight loss, you are extremely lucky to have loss of 2lb a week consistently so close to your ideal weight! Well done! :)

Weight loss does slow down the lighter you get, so i'd say, either do a food diary to see where you can cut down some of the calories and also calculate the calories you should be having for the weight you are now. Hopefully that will help get that last 9lbs off! good luck, you're pretty much the weight I want to be!! :)

Thankyou! I have been using the bmi calculator to cut my calories every 7lb loss. At ten stone I was going to cut again. But maybe I should do it now. Its not too hard. I cut a little of my day to day and then a bigger cut on a Thursday (so Thursday becomes closer to a fasting day and has currently been 1200 calories but will drop to 1100).

I am back to work today and hopefully back to a good routine so will see if that gets me back on track! However summer holidays are coming up so my routines are going to be disrupted again!

I do hope to reach my goal by September! But I am pretty happy with my size so I guess if it takes time to get those last pounds off its not going to make a huge difference!

Summer's can be hard, maybe stick to what you're doing for the moment, it may be easier. When do you weigh in? You seem to know what you're doing, have faith, stop midweek weigh ins as water, hormones and lady stuff can all make weight fluctuate. Good luck and I'll hope for a good weightloss for you this week

Yes... you could re-assess your goal weight and be happy at the weight you are, or

Give yourself a break (at your current weight), or

reduce your target weight loss to one pound (or whatever) a week.

The NHS BMI recommended weight is low for old, tall muscular people, and I am 15% body-fat at BMI 27 and age 70!

It could be the illness & the closer you are to healthy weight I would think that the loss would slow down xx

All or any of the above.

I find it really hard to take my own advice but ... they say: dont be wedded to the scales. As long as you're doing the right stuff, small fluctuations are simply life.

Remind me that I said that ...

Congrats that you're normally used to losing 2lbs a week.

I wouldn't expect that 3-400 cals to have made any difference but I would expect your weight loss to slow down as you get closer to your ideal weight.

Additionally, if you're used to losing 2lbs a week, that suggests to me that you might be eating closer to the lower range of the calories and as I understand things, this is likely to lead to a stall in progress at some point.

I notice that StillConcerned advocates taking a week out in every 4 and eating at maintaining levels to prevent this from occurring.

Of course, what I've just mentioned is only based on a presumption as I don't know what your situation has been :)

That is interesting! I was wondering if I need a binge day to get things moving? But will see what happens this week as I will be on my normal routine!

You have been doing brilliantly on the weight loss.

Give your body some time, follow what feels right.

A few weeks ago I started to feel hunger that didn't feel good to resist. I will come back to weight minding again but life sometimes makes it more difficult than other times.

You will get to your weight, if not by September, then by Christmas.
